Cher boldly tells Dax Shepard that his wife Kristen Bell could do better: ‘You must have something that I don’t see’

Cher playfully told Dax Shepard directly to his face that his wife, Kristen Bell, is clearly the stronger partner in their relationship.

Music legend, 79, recently appeared on Dax Shepard’s podcast, Armchair Expert, alongside 45-year-old Evan Bell. The singer, who says she attracted her much younger, 39-year-old boyfriend through the power of positive thinking, chatted with Shepard and Bell on the show.

Cher and Josh Duhamel’s husband, Josh Duhamel, have worked together before, appearing in the 2010 movie Burlesque. During a conversation where Duhamel discussed his direct communication style and past experiences, and how these factors influenced his marriage, Cher publicly expressed strong admiration for him.

Cher said: ‘You’re lucky. She is definitely the better half.’

Though the conversation between Cher and Bell, Shepard brought it back to that comment.

He asked the famous singer who she’d like to see her date, adding that he believed she deserved someone better, and he agreed with that assessment.

Cher couldn’t immediately think of anyone she’d prefer to send with the star, but she did manage one final jab at Shepard about it.

She said: ‘The truth is, I trust her. So you must have something that I don’t see.’

This happened after Bell received criticism from those who support victims of domestic violence. She had shared a troubling post on Instagram marking an anniversary, where her husband, Dax Shepard, jokingly said he had a strong motive to harm her.

The upsetting message, posted on their 12th wedding anniversary in October, immediately caused widespread anger.

The Frozen star celebrated her 12th wedding anniversary, sharing a memorable quote from her husband: ‘I would never kill you.’ She explained he’d jokingly added that many men have, sadly, harmed their wives, but despite having what he called strong motivation, he would never do so.

The post quickly received strong criticism online. Many survivors of domestic violence and related organizations said it was insensitive and showed poor judgment, especially because it was posted during Domestic Violence Awareness Month.

Bell hasn’t responded publicly to the criticism, and she took down the original post. She also cancelled her planned interview on the Today show shortly after the controversy began.

The Daily Mail has repeatedly contacted Bell’s representatives for comment, but they haven’t responded yet.

Dax Shepard and Kristen Bell first met in 2004 at a birthday party for a mutual friend. However, Bell later confessed she didn’t immediately fall for the host of the Armchair Expert podcast.

She remembered thinking the host of Punk’d was very talkative during their encounter. Speaking on SiriusXM in June 2024 with Ted Danson and Woody Harrelson, she said they just didn’t connect that night.

Let me tell you, sometimes the most unexpected moments lead to the greatest connections! I heard about this adorable couple who ran into each other again after three years at a hockey game. Apparently, things really clicked – and it all started with a surprisingly daring (and a little bit messy!) move. It just goes to show you, don’t be afraid to be a little spontaneous – you never know where it might lead!

Bell recounted that the man asked her for gum. She initially refused, playfully taking it out of her mouth, but he took it from her, saying, ‘I’ll take it.’ After he put the gum in his mouth, Bell realized she was strongly attracted to him, feeling instantly smitten.

Despite their initial connection, things hit a snag when Shepard got scared and briefly broke up with her. Luckily, he called just four days later, confessing he’d acted impulsively and regretted it.

Now, they’re one of the most open and honest couples in Hollywood, famous for talking frankly about things like therapy, raising kids, and their relationship.

Bell has also gushed that every new discovery about Shepard ‘leaves [her] more and more impressed.’

She described him as incredibly protective and loyal, always eager to learn and broaden his understanding. He consistently pushes himself, and isn’t afraid to be critical of his own work.

In 2013, Dax Shepard and Kristen Bell got married. After Dax proposed to Kristen again, they had a simple wedding ceremony at a courthouse in Beverly Hills.

They now share two daughters, Lincoln, 11, and Delta, 9.
