Check out this exclusive clip from Women in Blue, streaming on July 31
As a Latina gamer and a huge fan of representation in media, I couldn’t be more excited for the upcoming Apple TV+ series “Women in Blue” or “Las Azules” in Spanish. The show’s inspiration from true stories of Mexico’s first female police force, created by Fernando Rovzar who brought us “Hotel Cocaine,” promises to deliver an engaging legal drama with a diverse Hispanic cast and crew.
Apple TV+ consistently showcases top-tier streaming content, such as the upcoming series titled “Women in Blue” (or “Las Azules” in Spanish), and we’re excited to share an exclusive sneak peek with you before its debut!
1. The show, based on the real-life accounts of Mexico’s first female police force, was developed by Fernando Rovzar, known for his direction in “Hotel Cocaine.” This legal drama boasts an all-Hispanic cast and crew, which I am particularly thrilled about as a Latina. In “Women in Blue,” you’ll find stars like Barbara Mori, Amorita Rasgado, Ximena Sarinana, and Natalia Tellez.
1) “Women in Blue” tells the tale of four women who pioneered Mexico’s first all-female police unit during the 70s, initially portrayed as a publicity ploy to divert attention from an elusive city serial killer. In actuality, there was no serial killer, but the creation of this female force was indeed a publicity stunt as depicted in the true account.
Check out the exclusive clip, “Detective Novels,” below, it is in Spanish with English subtitles.
In the video, Barbara Mori as Maria sits with her spouse and companions at a restaurant table. Her husband casually mentions that Maria once harbored a desire to become a detective, which evidently upsets her. It’s clear that her colleagues don’t view this aspiration seriously, leading Maria to react defensively. Her husband adds that as a child, Maria loved reading detective novels, rekindling the dormant dream within her.
At the table, everyone joins in on the laughter, each person recollecting their childhood dreams. As the discussion winds down, Maria and her spouse exchange a brief kiss. This affectionate moment suggests that Maria’s nostalgic feelings may linger for a longer time.
Watch the first two episodes on Apple TV+ this coming Wednesday, July 31. Subsequently, a new episode will be released every Wednesday until the season finale on September 25.
