Chase Stokes is displaying a dramatic new look after getting back together with Kelsea Ballerini.
The Outer Banks star took to Instagram to reveal he ‘crashed out’ and got a buzz cut.
He shared a New Year’s Eve post saying he’d had a rough time and impulsively shaved his head – something he’s done before. He included a couple of starburst emojis with the message.
The snapshot also featured the words, ‘TIME TO BE FUNNY ON SOCIAL MEDIA NOW,’ in bold caps.
A photo showed Stokes silhouetted against the sunset, wearing sunglasses. His neatly trimmed hair was easily visible in the light.
After a turbulent on-again, off-again relationship with the 32-year-old country pop star – including two difficult breakups followed by makeups, most recently just before the holidays – it’s no wonder the 33-year-old actor felt the need for a significant change.
Last New Year’s Eve, Stokes posted a heartwarming message with pictures of him and his partner cuddling as the sun set in a vibrant orange glow.
He’d just gotten a buzz cut and held her close, kissing her head. Ballerini smiled widely behind her sunglasses, clearly happy.
Following a rekindled romance with Ballerini after almost three years of dating, he shared his New Year’s resolution: to learn from past errors.
As someone who’s spent years observing life and sharing what I’ve learned, I’ve realized something really important this year: don’t take for granted the beautiful moments. Life moves quickly – especially as you get older – and those precious times really do fly by. It’s a gentle reminder to savor everything while it lasts.
Moving forward, his plan focused on taking responsibility for his actions and learning from any errors. He also emphasized the importance of expressing love frequently and wholeheartedly.
Then he announced that 2026 would be his ‘year of growth’ and ‘year of truth.’
‘Starting here, starting now. Happy new years,’ he finished, adding a red heart emoji.
One photo captured them close together, and another showed Kelsea Ballerini with her dog, sweetly kissing the top of its head.
His post also featured pictures of him with loved ones – spending time with family and sharing a hug with a friend.
Kelsea Ballerini explained her perspective on the relationship on Instagram, mentioning she had a difficult year before they got back together at the end of the year.
She expressed a strong belief in love, faith in a significant person, and a desire to move away from established routines.
She posted a picture of her and Stokes seemingly kissing against the backdrop of a sunset, with both of them appearing as silhouettes.
She admitted it’s been a difficult year, both personally and publicly. She felt like her private life became very public and was portrayed in a way she couldn’t control.
Kelsea Ballerini shared that she truly believes in love, and that’s all she plans to say about her personal life from now on.
She finished with, ‘I have faith in this, in him, and in doing things differently!’ followed by a kissy face emoji. Then she urged everyone, ‘Go show your loved one some affection and stop overthinking things.’
Kelsea Ballerini and Morgan Evans divorced in November 2022, and shortly after, in late 2022, Kelsea met Chase Stokes.
People started speculating about a romance between the couple in January 2023 after they were seen together at the College Football Playoff National Championship game in Los Angeles.
Kelsea Ballerini and Morgan Evans (previously known as Stokes) initially hinted at their relationship online before making their red carpet debut as a couple at the 2023 CMAs. However, they separated in September 2025, with reports suggesting jealousy played a role in the split.
They briefly reunited but split up again in November before reconciling again in December.
Kelsea shared on the Call Her Daddy podcast about the instant connection she had when she first met Stokes.
‘He came to this party that I was playing, and I had just gotten done playing.
‘And I was … “Guys – I’m sweating just thinking about this. I thought I was gonna pass out.’
She explained that while you can feel a connection with someone over the phone, meeting in person can be awkward. You start noticing things like height differences and realize you don’t really know them, which can be unsettling.
‘And so I walked out to his car, and he got out of his Bronco – hot.’
