Charlize Theron shares disappointing The Old Guard 3 update

Charlize Theron has revealed some unfortunate news about the potential third installment of ‘The Old Guard’, stating that as of now, Netflix hasn’t made a final call on the matter.

In “The Old Guard 2”, Theron once again took on her character Andromache of Scythia, a role she originally played in the 2020 action movie. This upcoming film is a sequel to the original, and both are adaptations from Greg Rucka and Leandro Fernández’s comic book series.

Due to the movie quickly climbing to the peak of Netflix’s rankings, both its financial success and the suspenseful finale have sparked discussions among viewers and critics about whether a sequel might be in development.

Theron, who is involved in the production of these films, calmed down the rumors during an interview with Variety. He stated, “For now, let’s pause, catch our breath, and then we’ll regroup to make a decision.

Previously, Theron had expressed guarded optimism about another movie installment. In an interview with The Hollywood Reporter, she mentioned that the team was unsure about how they’d continue the storyline.

In the realm of this profession, I’ve come to understand that there are no certainties. It’s truly commendable of Netflix not to force us onto a different path. To put it straightforwardly, we, myself included, have absolutely no clue what shape the third film might take.

Charlize Theron is open to participating in a follow-up if given the chance, but director Victoria Mahoney won’t return for The Old Guard 2. However, she did voice optimism that the sequel will excel.

As a devoted fan, I’m eagerly anticipating it and hoping that the audience will grasp its essence too. I wish nothing but fun and success for everyone who gets to play in the third installment. I may not physically be there, but I’ll certainly be rooting for them with all my heart and fervor!

Alongside Theron, The Old Guard 2 also features the return of KiKi Layne, Matthias Schoenaerts, Marwan Kenzari, Luca Marinelli, Veronica Ngô and Chiwetel Ejiofor, who all appeared in the initial film. Additionally, Henry Golding and Uma Thurman are set to make their debuts as new additions to the cast.

The Old Guard and The Old Guard 2 are streaming now on Netflix.
