Charlie Sheen once asked his friend, Tony Todd, who was sober, to drive his 13-year-old daughter to a hair appointment because Sheen was unable to drive due to intoxication.
Charlie Sheen, curious to meet baseball player Carlos Estévez because they shared the same first name, asked his well-connected friend, Tony Todd, for help making the introduction.
During a difficult time with a crack addiction, after losing his job on “Two and a Half Men,” Charlie Sheen found support in his friend Tony Todd, who offered encouragement without criticism.
Todd mentioned that Charlie has a lot of people who pretend to be his friends. He added that they’ve been close since childhood and have always gotten along well, never even having a disagreement.
The recent Netflix documentary, “aka Charlie Sheen,” and the memoir, “The Book of Sheen,” brought Todd’s 50-year friendship with the often unpredictable actor to light. Since then, Todd’s social media has been filled with positive messages from viewers around the world.

Charlie Sheen, an actor and big baseball fan, first connected with Carlos Estévez in 2016 – they discovered they share the same given name. Now, Estévez, whom Sheen affectionately calls his “cosmic love child,” has become an All-Star baseball player.
“I had to reach out immediately to say you were and remain an angel from heaven.”
“You are the friend we would all like to have man, greetings from Spain!”
Hey, I was just reading this lovely letter someone wrote to Tony, and it really warmed my heart. Basically, they’re saying if Tony ever finds himself in Istanbul, they’d be thrilled to have him stay at their hotel. But it’s more than just business, you know? They really admire him, not just as an actor, but as a genuinely good person and a friend. It’s a really sweet sentiment, and it’s cool to see that kind of appreciation.
“You … are a stellar human being [heart emoji].”
Todd and Sheen have been friends for a long time, connecting over their shared love of baseball. They first became close playing Little League in Malibu, continued through high school at Santa Monica, and even practiced together in Sheen’s private indoor batting cage. They often showcased their hitting skills at local fields and even at Dodger Stadium.
Todd and Sheen became close friends outside of work, with Todd standing by Sheen as best man at his first two weddings. Even when Sheen struggled with drug and alcohol abuse and made destructive choices, Todd remained a supportive, sober friend.
According to Sheen, Tony Todd has always been incredibly supportive and reliable. “He’s always been there for me, through everything,” Sheen explained in a phone call. “He’s a true friend.”
The documentary “aka Charlie Sheen” tells his life story from his own perspective, featuring interviews with people who know him well. These include his brother Ramon, childhood friend Sean Penn, “Two and a Half Men” co-star Jon Cryer, producer Chuck Lorre, a former drug dealer named Marco Abeyta, and his ex-wives, Denise Richards and Brooke Mueller.
And, of course, Todd. He laughs. He cries. He exudes honesty and empathy.
“He’s just one of my favorite people to have around in any situation,” Sheen said.
This has definitely brought Todd – who is a different person than the actor from “Candyman” who sadly passed away last year – into the public eye.

I was so inspired to hear about a stunt actor from “Black Panther” stepping up to help a family in Lancaster! They recently had their rent money stolen, and this actor generously donated $700 to cover it. It’s amazing to see someone use their platform to make such a positive difference, and it really restores my faith in people.
Todd has worked as an actor and stuntman in films like “Black Panther” and “Little Big League,” and appeared in the TV show “Anger Management” and over twenty national commercials. However, in Santa Monica, he’s more famous for always volunteering for local fundraisers and driving around with a license plate that says “NVR KWT.”
This summer, he organized an outdoor movie night showing “Little Big League” and raised $10,000 for the Santa Monica Little League. He used his connections with professional athletes and famous entertainers to get valuable items donated for a silent auction.
In 2018, Todd was praised as a hero by officials after he generously gave $700 to a Lancaster family who had been robbed of their rent money. Touched by their situation, he drove from Santa Monica to the high desert to personally give them the funds.
Many people connect with Todd’s friendship with Charlie Sheen, especially because Todd claims he’s never used drugs or alcohol. Sheen, famously, struggled with substance abuse for years, but he got sober in December 2017. A key moment in his recovery was giving Todd his car keys, asking him to drive his daughter, Sami, to a hair appointment in Moorpark.

In an interview with ‘Good Morning America,’ Charlie Sheen talked about the personal and difficult experiences he shares in his new memoir, ‘The Book of Sheen’.
When Charlie Sheen was struggling with crack cocaine, Todd began living with him at his home in Beverly Hills. Despite Sheen’s addiction, he wouldn’t use drugs around Todd, and the two often spent their evenings watching baseball on MLB Network or ESPN’s “SportsCenter.”
“I didn’t do hard stuff in front of him, just out of respect,” Sheen said.
Todd cried while portraying ‘aka Charlie Sheen’ as he described why he stayed with his friend despite knowing the actor frequently used crack cocaine nearby.
“I just can’t leave him to die,” he said.
They often found joy in going to the baseball field to practice hitting. After injuring his shoulder years ago, Sheen taught himself to bat from the left side, practicing relentlessly – around a hundred swings daily – using a pitching machine in his home batting cage.
During a break while filming a DirecTV commercial at Dodger Stadium in 2007, Charlie Sheen hit a home run over the right-field wall. His friend, Todd, excitedly cheered because he’d bet a Dodgers employee that Sheen could do it.
“I knew it was going to happen because of all the [batting practice] we’d been taking,” Todd said.
Sheen boosted his physical strength with large amounts of testosterone, as discussed in a documentary and hinted at in a 2015 interview. In that interview, he clarified that his well-publicized 2011 breakdown, following his dismissal from “Two and a Half Men,” wasn’t caused by his HIV diagnosis.

Sheen acknowledged he used steroids before filming the 1989 movie “Major League,” where he played the character Ricky Vaughn. When asked if a previous incident could be attributed to something else, he joked it was more likely due to “roid rage.”
Around 2008, Todd filmed Charlie Sheen practicing baseball at Oak Park and Santa Clarita Hart high schools. Sheen hit a home run at Oak Park that Todd estimated went 445 feet, and he hit many more home runs at Hart while Hall of Fame player Eddie Murray and the Hart High baseball team watched.
I was so impressed watching Todd play after Sheen’s amazing performance at Hart! He really stepped up and hit a home run himself. He was a fantastic athlete – good enough to get a scholarship for both baseball and football at USC, actually. It’s a shame he got seriously injured in his senior year of high school, though, because that meant he lost the full ride he deserved.
He got the part of Mickey Scales in “Little Big League” because he was a talented baseball player, and his incredible speed continued to impress even decades later. One day, while practicing at Oak Park High, someone challenged him to a race around the bases.
Sheen told the man to start the race at second base while Todd started at home plate.

Sami Sheen, the daughter of Denise Richards and Charlie Sheen, has discussed her OnlyFans account and explained her decision to identify as a sex worker.
According to Sheen, Tony had already run past third base and touched home plate by the time the other player got there. He then playfully grabbed a glove and pretended to tag the runner as he reached home.
For several years, Todd coached baseball at Santa Monica High. In 2013, he successfully campaigned for the school to grant Charlie Sheen his high school diploma. Sheen had been just 1.5 credits short of graduating three decades earlier.
Todd contacted his friend Ross Mark, who managed bookings for “The Tonight Show With Jay Leno,” and together they arranged for Charlie Sheen to appear on the show. The plan was for Jay Leno to unexpectedly present him with the diploma.
Todd walked onto the stage, diploma in hand. Sheen, having quickly put on a cap and gown, hugged him. It was a gesture from a lifelong friend who had helped him through another difficult time.
