Charlie Hunnam and his girlfriend, Morgana McNelis, appeared together at the 2025 Emmy Awards in Los Angeles, and they seemed very much in love.

The couple, known for keeping their personal lives quiet, shared a rare public moment of affection Sunday evening. After being together for over twenty years, they smiled and posed closely together on the red carpet.

The 45-year-old actor, known for his role in Sons of Anarchy, looked sharp in a stylish Saint Laurent suit jacket. He wore it with a dark blue silk shirt, casually left open at the collar.

He looked relaxed and confident as he stood next to McNelis, casually slipping one hand into his pocket.

McNelis, age 42, turned heads in a stunning golden satin dress. The gown featured a flattering drape and a low-cut neckline.

She completed her look with a shimmering silver clutch and dainty jewelry, letting her blonde hair flow freely to enhance her simple elegance.

Later that night, Charlie Hunnam presented the award for best lead actress in a limited series, anthology series, or movie. Cristin Milioti won the award for her role as Sofia Falcone in HBO’s *The Penguin*.

In 2020, Charlie Hunnam shared that he doesn’t have strong feelings about marriage, especially considering he first married actress Katharine Towne when he was just 18 years old.

They got married quickly in Las Vegas after dating for just three weeks in 1999, but their marriage ended in divorce by 2002.

Charlie Hunnam admitted on Andy Cohen’s radio show that he’d eventually get married again, but not enthusiastically.

He explained he’d marry McNelis because it mattered to her, but he wasn’t in love with the idea.

Just a few weeks later, he took back his comments, telling TooFab that he’d said something ‘really foolish.’

The actor from Queer as Folk said he deeply regretted a hurtful comment he made to his girlfriend. He explained it was thoughtless and said in the heat of the moment, and that he didn’t mean it at all.

You know, people often ask me about marriage, and I always say I’m a total romantic at heart. Honestly, I feel very much married already – I’ve been happily with my partner for fourteen years now! What I’m trying to get across is that a piece of paper from the government doesn’t really define our commitment. It’s the love and the romance that truly matter to me.

The actor explained his controversial statements by saying he’d been doing interviews for twelve hours a day, for three days straight.

We were chatting normally, and then someone suddenly asked what I thought about marriage. I just said the first thing that came to mind, and it didn’t really represent how I feel. Family means a lot to me, though.

When questioned about marrying McNelis, Hunnam explained that he wasn’t in a rush, saying he’s always taken his time with things. They had been focused on their individual pursuits for a while, but they were now starting to think about settling down and changing their priorities.

In 2016, Charlie stepped up to support his girlfriend when she was targeted by online bullies.

Back in 2013, he announced that he and his girlfriend had purchased a ranch and were leaving Hollywood behind. They were starting a more sustainable lifestyle with a growing menagerie – about 30 chickens, a couple of donkeys and ducks – and a large organic garden.

Hunnam has also praised McNelis, a jewelry designer, for being his biggest cheerleader. 

He explained that dating an actress can be difficult because they’re asked to reveal personal aspects of their lives they might prefer to keep private. He anticipated this would be even more challenging with the role of Christian Grey in *Fifty Shades of Grey*, which is why he ultimately decided not to take the part.
