Charlie Hunnam looks unrecognizable as he transforms into serial killer Ed Gein for Monster
As a true crime enthusiast with years of binge-watching and analyzing shows under my belt, I must say that the upcoming third season of Monster seems to be shaping up quite impressively. Edward Gein, a character as chilling as his crimes, is about to be brought to life by none other than the talented Charlie Hunnam.
In a remarkable metamorphosis, Charlie Hunnam became almost untraceable, bearing little resemblance to himself, as he took on the role of the notorious serial killer Ed Gein in Ryan Murphy’s latest production.
For the third season of the Netflix anthology show “Monster,” a 44-year-old actor takes on the role of the infamous serial killer and grave robber, following the initial two seasons that received significant criticism.
On the film set in Los Angeles, Hunnam underwent a transformation into Gein by adopting a clean-shaven look.
In an unusual change, he didn’t resemble his typical self with his distinct beard, instead opting for a slicked-back hairstyle that bore a striking similarity to the iconic style of the notorious murderer.
On set, Hunnam, playing the role of the murderer, could be observed engaging in conversation with a police officer while dressed in attire reminiscent of the 1950s.
In a casual yet stylish look, the actor from Sons of Anarchy wore a striped button-down in shades of brown and subdued green, over which he added a red, workman-style plaid coat.
He donned brown, straight-leg trousers and a pair of distressed leather, lace-up boots.
On the filming location, he worked together with his fellow actor, Vicky Krieps. During this time, she wore a vibrant yellow gown and a wig of blonde hue.
As a devoted admirer, I slipped into a pair of taupe running sneakers and black fingertip-free gloves – a choice that aligned perfectly with my style.
As she arrived on set, she had red paint on her cheek.
Following the donning of her wig, she strolled about the set while wearing a robe, carrying a takeout box, and a tote bag in tow.
At one point, she was seen strolling around with the hood of her long, maxi dress over her head.
During breaks between takes, she could often be found socializing with both the actors and production team. Her mood was lively as they all enjoyed some playful moments on the filming location.
Gein was a notorious American murderer and body snatcher who exhumed corpses.
In a chilling twist, he took the leftovers from his victims to craft unsettling objects such as furniture and clothing. This gruesome practice eventually led to his apprehension in 1957.
In and around the town where he was raised, Ed Gein earned a chilling moniker – the Butcher of Plainfield. It is here that he carried out his heinous acts.
After battling lung cancer, the notorious murderer passed away at the age of 77 on July 26, 1984, in a psychiatric institution where he had resided for almost three decades following his conviction.
In September, during promotions for “Monsters: The Lyle and Erik Menendez Story,” Murphy revealed that Hunnam had been cast in the third season of the “Monster” anthology series.
The second installment followed the initial one, featuring Evan Peters and known as “DAHMER: The Jeffrey Dahmer Story”.
The upcoming season will also star Tom Hollander, Laurie Metcalf and Olivia Williams.
Carl Franklin, who was part of the team for the initial and subsequent seasons of Monster, is set to return as the director for this upcoming season.
Murphy and Ian Brennan will remain executive producers.
The filming process began a month ago and is scheduled to carry on for multiple months until the tentative completion date of March 31st, 2025.
Since we’re still producing it, we don’t have a set release date for the third season of Monster just yet.
