Charlie Cox Talks Jessica Jones’ Return and Big Season 2 Questions
Initially, it was planned for “Daredevil: Born Again” to stand alone from other live-action Marvel shows of the 2010s (now streaming with Disney+). However, changes in creative direction stopped this plan, making the new series reference events from its precursor as it aired on the 2025 TV schedule. This means that Matt Murdock’s reunion with Krysten Ritter’s Jessica Jones in Season 2 will be even more thrilling. Despite this, Charlie Cox did answer a question fans might wonder about before “Born Again” returns.
Last month saw the confirmation that Ritter will once again portray her Marvel character, a role she last played during the final season of Jessica Jones in 2019. Despite Jessica and Matt not having the warmest relationship when they collaborated with Luke Cage and Iron Fist in The Defenders, her presence is sure to be a valuable asset for Daredevil: Born Again Season 2. However, during an appearance on Deadline’s Crew Call podcast, Cox offered this insightful observation:
The issue is determining precisely when Jessica Jones discovered that I’m not deceased, as at the conclusion of Defenders, it appears everyone believes I am dead. Consequently, I can’t recall the moment she found out, and it’s unclear whether this event occurred on-screen or off. However, given enough time has passed, it’s reasonable to assume that such a revelation likely took place.
If you’re wondering about it, let me remind you that in the finale of “The Defenders”, Daredevil (Matt Murdock) was found with Elektra eating nachos in Midland Circle just as explosions were tearing down the building. The last scenes of the miniseries showed Matt alive and being attended to by a nun in a room, hinting at “Daredevil” Season 3. However, that final season of “Daredevil” barely touched upon or incorporated the events of “The Defenders”, let alone any of the other main characters. Indeed, Charlie Cox is spot on when he asks: how and when did Jessica learn Matt was still alive?

On Disney+, you can enjoy popular Marvel TV series like Daredevil, Daredevil: Born Again, Jessica Jones, The Defenders, and many more starting at an affordable $9.99 per month for their ad-supported plan. For a commercial-free experience, consider the $15.99 monthly option or take advantage of a 16% discount by pre-paying $159.99 annually. Check out the deal here!
Perhaps “Daredevil: Born Again” will touch upon this matter in Season 2, or perhaps it’ll be left unexplored. Either way, Charlie Cox is excited about more interactions between Matt and Jessica. He further shares his anticipation.
One intriguing aspect of Jessica and Matt is their unique interaction, which often brings humor. They have a deep respect for each other, but they also see different sides in one another. Jess might perceive Matt as overly serious and somewhat like a choirboy, while Matt may view Jess as blunt, finding her making jokes about too many serious matters, and perhaps considering her actions slightly more antiheroic than heroic.
More on Daredevil: Born Again

In a recent interview, Charlie Cox from Daredevil: Born Again shares his enthusiasm for Season 2, stating that it feels “almost like a chess game” compared to previous seasons. This means that the storyline is more intricate and strategic, with complex layers of plot development and character interactions that make it engaging and exciting for viewers.
Showrunner for Daredevil: Born Again clarifies why The Defenders weren’t included in the season 1 finale, and their reasoning is quite logical.
The person responsible for creating Daredevil: Born Again explains why The Defenders didn’t appear in the final episode of season 1, and it’s a well-thought-out decision.
Among the main actors from the Marvel Netflix era, Krysten Ritter will be returning to her role in “Daredevil: Born Again,” following Jon Bernthal’s Frank Castle, also known as The Punisher, who was absent in “The Defenders.” Interestingly, Bernthal is set to return for Season 2 and has a Punisher special on Disney+ in the works, although it’s undetermined if this will come before or after the revival of “Born Again.” Recently, Ritter shared updates about her “superhero training,” so we can expect Jessica Jones to be back in action next year.
In addition to several recurring characters set to return for Daredevil: Born Again Season 2, we’ll encounter Matthew Lillard playing an as-yet unnamed character and Lili Taylor in her role as New York’s governor. Similar to Season 1, the series is scheduled to premiere in March 2026 as part of Marvel Cinematic Universe’s Phase Six.
