Charli XCX’s Wuthering Heights soundtrack is out now – here’s where you can listen to it today

With Emerald Fennell’s new film version of Wuthering Heights in theaters today, you can now hear the gothic rock soundtrack created by Charli XCX for the adaptation of Emily Brontë’s classic novel.

The singer of ‘360’ made a 12-song album for the movie, which features Margot Robbie and Jacob Elordi as Cathy and Heathcliff, after the film’s director and writer asked her to.

The movie’s soundtrack features the song ‘Chains of Love,’ which was used in the trailer for John Cale’s film ‘House.’ It also includes ‘Funny Mouth,’ a collaboration between Charli XCX, producer Finn Keane, and Joe Keery, who is known for his role in Stranger Things and is also a musician.

The album is now available to buy on CD and vinyl from Amazon at £10.99 and £29.08, respectively.

If you prefer to listen online, you can find Wuthering Heights on Amazon Music and other streaming services. New Amazon Music Unlimited subscribers can try it free for 30 days, and then it costs £12.99 per month.

Charli’s version of “Wuthering Heights” hints at the same passionate energy as the movie Saltburn, which adds explicit sexual scenes to the more reserved romance between Cathy and Heathcliff in the original novel.

So, Fennell told me she really wanted to nail that feeling you get when you first read the book as a teenager. That’s why she put quotation marks around the title – she wanted to capture that initial, almost questioning, emotional reaction you have when you first see it.

She explained she aimed to recreate the strong emotional impact the original work had on her, describing it as a deeply instinctive and even sensual feeling (via BBC News).

She explained that she’d filled in details in her mind while first reading the book, when she was fourteen, but later realized those details weren’t actually in the story.

Critics are sharply divided on the new adaptation, with some calling it captivating and others finding it surprisingly empty. Currently, it has a 65% rating on Rotten Tomatoes based on 162 reviews, but this score could change as more opinions are published.

Wuthering Heights is in cinemas now.
