Charli XCX Shocks Fans by Stepping Away from Music Despite BRIT Awards Success!
On Saturday evening, it’s expected that Charli XCX will shine at the BRIT Awards, having earned a total of six nominations. Among these nods are prestigious categories like Artist of the Year, Album of the Year, and Song of the Year.
32-year-old artist, who was recently titled Songwriter of the Year, has stunned fans by announcing her intention to step away from music temporarily, with a focus on pursuing acting opportunities instead.
2024’s Brat-acclaimed singer has disclosed that she’ll be taking a break from music recordings, confessing that she experiences pressure regarding her future projects.
She informed The Sun, “I likely won’t be making music for a while. Additionally, I’m keen on acting at the moment. I’ve already ventured into it and am giving more thought to these prospects.
Charli’s career has been marked by reinvention, and Brat has been her most successful era yet.
This album, packed with assertive and introspective songs, has received universal acclaim, garnered three Grammy Awards, and sparked a cultural phenomenon known as ‘Brat summer.’

Even though the album received praise, she acknowledged that the tremendous success it achieved has led to high expectations that may prove challenging to meet again.
She mentioned that while the triumph and promotion of ‘Brat’ have their advantages, they can also be a form of misfortune in some ways. She plans to change direction, but understands that whatever new project she takes on will inevitably be compared. In essence, any future endeavor may become a burden or obstacle, similar to the albatross in literature.
Alongside her music career, Charli has also been making a name for herself in film.
As a devoted admirer, I’m proud to share that I’ve been part of six cinematic ventures so far. Among them are Faces of Death, a chilling remake of the 1978 horror classic, I Want Your Sex, an exhilarating erotic thriller graced by the presence of Olivia Wilde, and The Gallerist, a witty dark comedy that brings together the talents of Catherine Zeta-Jones and Natalie Portman.
Apart from that role, she’s also been featured in the period fantasy “100 Nights of Hero” alongside Emma Corrin, and lent her talent to “Sacrifice,” a movie based on Joan of Arc, with Anya Taylor-Joy playing the lead role.
Despite garnering significant attention as a standout star at this year’s BRIT Awards, Charli has chosen to decline the opportunity to take the stage during the event.
Damian Christian, Managing Director and President of Promotions at Atlantic Records under Warner Music UK, as well as Chair of the BRIT Committee, affirmed the choice, expressing: “She had an incredible year filled with much activity, and the response we received was, ‘I appreciate the invitation, but I prefer to spend this evening with my loved ones.’

Discussing Charli’s distinguished songwriting award launched in 2022, he remarked: “Charli has had a remarkable year, moving her innovative blend of electronic and pop music from underground dance parties into the core of mainstream popularity.
Charli’s songwriting stands out, shows great courage, and never stops pushing boundaries. With several years under her belt as a top UK songwriter, she has elevated her artistry to unprecedented levels with the worldwide success of her hit album, Brat.
‘I’m delighted she has been recognised for this much deserved award.’
In June, Charli unveiled her sixth studio album, titled BRAT, which was widely praised by critics as the best album of the year and peaked at number one on the UK Official Album Chart in October.
2024 saw the album being recognized with a nomination for the prestigious Mercury Prize. Meanwhile, “Guess” (featuring Billie Eilish) skyrocketed to the top of the UK Official Singles Chart, marking Charli as the first British artist to reach that position in the previous year.
Back then, a source close to Charli revealed to The Sun that her management had been discussing her performance at the Brit Awards for several months. However, she ultimately concluded that the situation didn’t align with her feelings and declined the opportunity due to the additional stress it would bring.
She found the idea of repeating her major performance at the Brits after her Grammy performance to be overwhelming.
Regarding the Brits, she plans to attend, but she desires freedom to relax and enjoy herself without having to perform – especially since she won’t be able to socialize post-Grammys.
However, there will be live performances from JADE, Lola Young, Myles Smith, and Sabrina Carpenter.
As a devoted follower, I’m thrilled to share that together with Charli and A.G. Cook, we’ve been privileged to learn about the winners of two additional awards for this year’s BRITs ceremony before the grand event itself.
Last year, it was announced that this year’s BRITs Rising Star award would go to Myles, and just this past month, we learned that Sabrina will receive the BRITs Global Success award during the ceremony.
The BRIT Awards will be held live at The O2 Arena, and can only be viewed on ITV1, ITVX, and the STV Player in the UK.
