She plays herself as she makes her acting debut in Charli xcx’s ‘tour mockumentary’ The Moment.
Charli XCX has shared details about filming with Kendall Jenner for the upcoming satirical movie, which centers on music industry professionals trying to profit from the popular ‘Brat summer’ trend as Jenner prepares for her first arena tour.
In a movie trailer, 28-year-old Kendall Jenner tells Charli D’Amelio to push herself even further, even though Charli appears tired of being in the public eye.
Charli, 33, shared that she particularly enjoyed filming the scene with Kylie, as she mentioned during a Q&A at the Alamo Drafthouse in Brooklyn, according to People magazine.
Kendall Jenner’s part of the project was filmed separately and was the final scene completed, following scenes with Rachel Sennott.
Oh my gosh, you will NOT believe this! The director told me they started filming with Rachel – Rachel! – and the very last shot, the absolute last thing they filmed, was with Kylie! Can you even imagine?! She said it was like bookending the whole movie with two absolute icons, both playing themselves! It’s just… perfect. Seriously, two legends starting and ending the film – I’m still freaking out!
She described the scene with Kylie as really enjoyable, explaining that it felt natural and easy. Kylie seemed to have a lot of fun with it and really made it her own.
Charli’s film, originally called a ‘tour mockumentary,’ first showed at the Sundance Film Festival in Park City, and then had a glamorous premiere in Beverly Hills.
Oh my gosh, you guys, this documentary is EVERYTHING! It’s like, you get to see everything leading up to her first huge tour – all the behind-the-scenes stuff! But it’s not just about the concerts, it really dives into who she is, both the person everyone sees and the real her. It’s so raw and honest, it’s amazing!
The show depicts how a subculture changes when it becomes popular and profitable, with music industry leaders wondering how to maintain that trendy, rebellious energy indefinitely.
The Moment is currently screening in limited release.
The film, from director Aidan Zamiri, is slated for nationwide release on February 6.
Jenner plays herself in the satirical movie, which was announced last October.
The trailer, released in December, mixes real concert clips with fictional scenes starring actors Alexander Skarsgård and Rachel Sennott.
At the beginning of the scene, Charli questions whether the popular phrase “Keep having a Brat Summer!” feels a little awkward or embarrassing.
The slogan seems to be endlessly repeating the word “Brat,” and honestly, they might be onto something. It’s just… frustrating.
The musician is clearly having a hard time with the pressures of fame, explaining, ‘People expect me to constantly come up with something new and exciting, and to always be cool!’
Jenner added that you should actually increase your efforts when people start to get tired of you.
The dictionary recently updated the definition of ‘brat’ to describe someone who is self-assured, independent, and pleasure-seeking. It quickly became a popular trend that defined the style of the season.
Charli recently praised Kylie’s performance in the film, telling Deadline that she ‘totally understood the role’ and is ‘a really great actress.’
Jenner has been a big supporter of the film ever since joining the project. She attended the premiere in Beverly Hills and has been sharing about it with her followers on Instagram.
She excitedly shared on social media last month that tickets for Los Angeles and New York screenings are now available, writing, “The moment!!! Can’t wait to see you at the movies xx <3!”
