Charli XCX appeared to make a dig at Taylor Swift in a new interview with Vanity Fair.
Taylor Swift and her former touring partner seem to be involved in a major and increasingly public disagreement, sparked by lyrics on her latest album, The Life Of A Showgirl.
In Taylor Swift’s song ‘Actually Romantic,’ she sings about someone calling her ‘Boring Barbie’ ‘when the coke’s got you brave.’ Many fans believe this line is directed at Charli XCX, who has talked about drug use in her own songs. However, neither Taylor nor Charli has confirmed if this is true.
Now, Charli has made comments about how people view her and referenced her ‘party girl’ image.
It’s really interesting to see how people interpret my personality and share their impressions – what parts they focus on and what they overlook. I’m always curious about how someone who doesn’t follow my work closely perceives me.
‘And they probably think I’m a girl who parties and does drugs and is a little bit b***hy.’

In a stunning photo from the shoot, Charli looked amazing in a tight-fitting, sparkling gold dress.
The singer was later joined by her husband, George Daniel, and she posed with him in a revealing black sheer dress.
I was so thrilled to hear that Charli and George officially tied the knot! After their intimate London celebration, they had a gorgeous wedding in Sicily last month – it looked absolutely stunning, and I’m so happy for them both!
Charli explained that she finds comfort in her marriage because she and her husband, Daniel, can support each other through the pressures of their careers. He relies on her perspective when making music, and she appreciates his support in return. She said it’s reassuring to have someone to talk to about the anxieties of fame and the fear that success might not last.
The interview follows the release of Taylor’s song “Actually Romantic” from her album, *The Life of A Showgirl*. Fans, known as Swifties, think the song is a critical response to another singer, Brat.
Charli’s 2024 album, Brat, was a big hit and featured the song ‘Sympathy is a knife,’ which many fans believe is about Taylor Swift.
The album also features a song titled “Everything is Romantic,” which many fans believe connects to the idea that Taylor’s upcoming project, “Actually Romantic,” is inspired by Charli XCX.
The song ‘Actually Romantic’ features the lyric, ‘I heard you call me ‘Boring Barbie’ when you’ve had a little courage from drinking Coke.’

After Charli appeared on TV, a viewer commented on X (formerly Twitter), calling it an ‘iconic cameo’ and playfully adding that her ‘Boring Barbie’ shirt was the perfect finishing touch.
The person added: ‘Charli and Role Model just owned SNL!’
And one social media user wrote that Taylor is ‘screaming into her pillows’ after the Charli cameo.
Many people supported Taylor and jokingly threatened the person wearing the Kansas City Chiefs t-shirt, referencing a lyric from her song ‘Actually Romantic’ with the line, ‘Oh tiny chihuahua, you will be dealt with’.
Someone else asked how long Charli has been spreading rumors about Taylor, adding that Charli is too old to be behaving this way.
However, many fans noticed the Kansas City shirt Charli wore on Saturday was actually from the merchandise collection of the band Role Model.
According to a user on X, @tscuniversity13, Role Model’s 2024 album, ‘Kansas Anymore,’ is connected to a bar located at 213 Park Ave in New York City – the shirt seems to be a reference to it.
No one said anything, but someone shared a picture of Role Model wearing the same shirt earlier in the Saturday night show.

Despite the criticism, someone responded, ‘People don’t care that the items are his merchandise. She fully understood what she was doing – using it to subtly criticize him while also being able to deny it if questioned. It’s just strange behavior from a fan.’
Someone else added that this situation isn’t about Taylor at all, but stems from a recent disagreement between [Role Model] and Charli that people didn’t seem to care about a week ago. They feel it’s time to let it go.
In her song ‘Actually Romantic,’ Taylor seems to allude to a complex relationship dynamic. She sings about a casual encounter with an ex, followed by a partner expressing relief that the ex ended things abruptly, and then a song about being bothered by her face. This is widely believed to be a reference to Charli XCX’s friendship with Matty Healy, who is in the band The 1975 alongside Charli’s husband, George Daniel.
She suggests the singer has a strong interest in her, saying, ‘It’s actually sweet how much time you’ve spent thinking about me – it’s honestly a little crazy.’
Earlier this month, Taylor explained that her song ‘Actually Romantic’ is like a love letter written to someone you dislike.
Sometimes you don’t realize you’ve impacted someone else’s life or become a part of their experiences, but you always have. There are moments when they show you, through their actions, how much of a role you’ve played.
Now that I’m older, I’ve realized I’m genuinely impressed by what you’ve accomplished. It’s really flattering, and I’ve let go of any negative feelings or lingering thoughts about it.
Oh my god, you HAVE to hear this song! It’s like, totally exposing everything. There’s this line where she sings about someone calling her ‘Boring Barbie’ when they’re all hyped up on coke – it’s SO raw and honest! And then, get this, she sings about high-fiving her ex and being *happy* he ditched her! It’s just… perfection. It’s like she’s reading my diary, honestly. I’m obsessed!
Someone wrote a song about how seeing me bothers them, and while the lyrics might seem harsh to some, I actually find it kind of endearing.
So, there’s been a lot of buzz lately about a song on Charli XCX’s album, *Brat*. People are saying I wrote a track called ‘Sympathy Is A Knife’ that’s potentially about Taylor Swift – it’s definitely sparked some interesting conversations!
In the song, Charli sings about feeling lost and uncertain, questioning if she’s overthinking things. She mentions hearing a voice suggesting people are laughing at her, but someone named George tells her she’s just being paranoid.
I really don’t want to see her behind the scenes at my boyfriend’s concert. I’m secretly hoping they split up soon.

At this year’s Grammy Awards, Taylor was spotted dancing along to Charli’s performance of “Von Dutch.” Charli’s album, “Brat,” received eight nominations at the event.
People online reacted to Taylor’s work, with some arguing she doesn’t align with feminist values and criticizing her songwriting as overly sentimental.
A post on X claimed that Taylor Swift creating a song seemingly critical of Charli XCX demonstrates she isn’t a feminist, and that she strategically released it to prevent Charli XCX from charting on Billboard.
Someone expressed strong disapproval of Taylor Swift, using offensive language and accusing her of jealousy towards Charli XCX. They also criticized the lyrics of her new album, calling them overly cheesy and suggesting they were intended to criticize Charli XCX.
Charli was able to film ‘The Life of a Showgirl,’ but Taylor wasn’t available for ‘Brat,’ and that’s the simple explanation.
I don’t think ‘I’m Sorry but the Life of a Showgirl’ is one of Tay’s best albums. It feels quite simple, and I’m confused by the unnecessary criticism of Charli.
However, not everyone felt the same way, with some commenting that people were being overly enthusiastic about the album. One person pointed out that even Taylor Swift’s weakest tracks are still stronger than Charli XCX’s best.
It’s hilarious how Taylor was dancing so enthusiastically to Charli’s performance, especially knowing she has an unreleased song about her! I just love her energy.
Daily Mail contacted Taylor’s representative for comment at the time.
I’ve been following Taylor and Charli for ages, and I remember how amazing it was to see Charli open for Taylor on the reputation tour back in 2018! But lately, it’s been really upsetting to see all the rumors swirling around that they’re not getting along anymore. It feels like something’s definitely changed, and honestly, it’s a bit heartbreaking as a fan who’s seen them support each other for so long.
Charli, also known as Charlotte Emma Aitchison, is married to George, and through that relationship, she’s become closer to George’s bandmate, Matty, recently.
Matty is now engaged to Gabbriette Bechtel, a model and a close friend of Charli’s who has been in her music videos before.
Charli, George, Matty, and Gabbriette recently spent time together at the beach. Shortly after, Charli and George got married in a beautiful Sicilian ceremony. This feels like a big change for Charli, especially considering her previous touring partner.
Oh my gosh, can you believe it? Charli actually opened for Taylor – *the* Taylor, with all her Grammys – on over 50 nights during the Reputation tour! It was insane seeing them both on one stage, and I was there for as many shows as humanly possible. Seriously, it was a dream come true!
Things started to feel off the next year, in 2019. Charli told Pitchfork that performing felt like she was playing to a very young audience, saying it was ‘like getting up onstage and waving to 5-year-olds.’
She went on to say following the tour she it made her decide to never open for anyone again.
Charli explained that after consistently being seen as the underdog, she’s ready to take control and be confident in her own abilities.
After receiving criticism, she explained on social media that her previous comments were misinterpreted. She clarified that, as stated in her article and in past statements, she is very thankful to Taylor Swift for the opportunity to be an opening act.
She’s a hugely influential artist for people my age, and her Reputation tour was a record-breaking success.
Oh my gosh, she actually *said* that before the tour, she was mostly doing shows for adults only – like, 18+ clubs. Apparently, playing all-ages shows was totally new territory for her! It’s just…amazing to think about her starting out that way and then hitting the big time. I’ve listened to the interview like, five times already!
