As a seasoned film enthusiast and music aficionado who has witnessed the evolution of popular culture since the era of MTV Unplugged, I must say, this “Femininomenon” is truly captivating! The meteoric rise of Chappell Roan is reminiscent of the raw energy that exploded onto the scene with the likes of Alanis Morissette and Fiona Apple in the ’90s. Her powerful voice, empowering lyrics, and undeniable stage presence have captured the hearts of millions, and her record-breaking performance at Lollapalooza is a testament to her immense talent and unstoppable momentum.

This could be the year of the “Femininomenon.”

Chappell Roan’s 2024 track “Good Luck Babe!” is climbing up the charts, and her 2023 song “Feminomenon” has spread like wildfire online. It seems that the “Midwest Princess” could have set a new record with the massive crowd that turned out to watch her perform at the Lollapalooza Music Festival in Chicago last week, as suggested by representatives of the event.

A representative of the festival shared with CNN that Chappell’s performance was the most extraordinary daytime set in our history, stating it brought an enchanting experience that now becomes part of Lolla’s very essence.

The representative stated that approximately 110,000 individuals flocked to the festival daily, but the specific attendance for Roan’s performance was not disclosed. Notably, popular artists like SZA, Megan Thee Stallion, and Melanie Martinez graced the stage as headliners at this event.

Representatives for Lollapalooza did not immediately respond to The Times’ request for comment.

“Roan’s crowd during ‘Hot to Go’ performance, as seen from above, shows that this event is all about Chappell,” the festival stated in their Instagram post.

Originally, the artist known for “After Midnight” was scheduled to perform on a smaller stage at Lollapalooza. But as interest in her performance increased closer to the event, she was moved to the main stage. This shift in scheduling resulted in a swap with pop singer Kesha, according to a representative who spoke to CNN. Roan’s popularity had been evident earlier on the festival circuit, with large crowds turning up for her shows at Coachella, Boston Calling, and New York City’s Governors Ball.

Back in 1991, I was part of the exciting journey when Perry Farrell, the lead singer of Jane’s Addiction, established Lollapalooza as a grand stage for our farewell tour across multiple cities. Fast forward to 2010, this incredible event started branching out globally with festivals in Chile, Brazil, Argentina, Germany, Sweden, France, and India.

In 2022, as reported by Billboard, South Korean rapper J-Hope from BTS attracted an audience of 100,000 for his solo performance, marking him as the initial South Korean artist to headline a significant American music festival.
