Chappell Roan slammed over Kamala Harris, Donald Trump endorsement decision: 'This is disappointing'

As a fellow artist navigating the tumultuous waters of fame, I can wholeheartedly empathize with Roan’s experiences. Her words ring true for many of us who have found ourselves in the limelight, where everyday activities become fraught with unexpected challenges. The feeling of being stalked or harassed while trying to enjoy simple pleasures like going to the park or thrifting is a stark reminder that our lives are no longer our own.

As a devoted admirer, I can’t help but express my disappointment in Chappell Roan for not publicly endorsing Kamala Harris over Donald Trump in the forthcoming U.S. Presidential election. Her silence on this crucial matter has left me feeling let down.

A 26-year-old American musician-composer, who recently disclosed her struggle with severe depression, faced criticism from followers when she declined to support any candidate during an interview with The Guardian on Friday.

Roan expressed concerns about numerous problems with the government from all angles, and there are multiple aspects he wishes to alter.

She added she ‘doesn’t feel pressured to endorse someone’ because ‘there’s problems on both sides.’

She suggested: ‘Exercise your ability to think critically and make informed decisions. When you cast your vote, consider local issues and choose wisely based on what’s happening in your city.’

She added her top issue is trans rights, because ‘they cannot have cis people making decisions for trans people, period.’

Supporters expressed their displeasure about Chappel’s recent choice, stating: “I admire Chappel deeply, but this particular move has been challenging to accept due to its apparent lack of intelligence.

Another wrote: ‘every time Chappell opens her mouth again she gets worse and worse

‘how can you be part of the LGBTQ+ community and have tone deaf s**t like this to say so loudly

Chappell ily but this is so fucking ignorant lmao one side is clearly worse girl!!

“If Chappell had phrased it differently, it would have greatly strengthened her argument.

Others spoke up in support of the star, expressing: “The internet should stop harassing Chappell; she didn’t do anything wrong at all!” and “I’m really fed up with the criticism against Chappell. I wish I could remain composed about this, but her continuous mistreatment is overwhelming me.

Previously, Harris demonstrated her admiration for Roan, incorporating her song “Femininomenon” into a promotional video.

Last June, I, being a devoted admirer, found myself buzzing with excitement as Roan graced the stage at the Governor’s Ball festival in the heart of New York City. During her electrifying performance, she revealed a fascinating tidbit – she had respectfully declined an invitation to perform at a White House Pride event. This decision resonated deeply within me, further fueling my admiration for this artist who uses her platform to advocate for causes close to our hearts.

She said: ‘We want liberty, justice and freedom for all. When you do that, that’s when I’ll come.’

Last week, musical duo Billie Eilish and her sibling collaborator Finneas O’Connell declared their support for Kamala Harris as the presidential candidate for the 2024 election.

The pair posted a video on social media to mark National Voter Registration Day on Tuesday.

The 22-year-old Grammy and Oscar winner expressed that she is supporting Kamala Harris and Tim Walz, as they are actively working to safeguard our reproductive rights, our environment, and our democratic system.

‘We can’t let extremists control our lives, our freedoms and our future,’ O’Connell added.

He said ‘the only way to stop them and the dangerous Project 2025 agenda is to vote and elect Kamala Harris.’

‘Vote like your life depends on it because it does,’ Eilish said.

Meanwhile Trump has received a controversial endorsement from NFL WAG, Brittany Mahomes.

Roan recently  threated to quit the industry over unwanted attention.

Chappell, who goes for therapy sessions two times a week to handle the unexpected fame, confessed that receiving her diagnosis was surprising since she doesn’t truly experience ‘melancholy.’

She told the Guardian: ‘I’m in therapy twice a week. I went to a psychiatrist last week because I was like, I don’t know what’s going on.

She determined that I have severe depression – something I wasn’t convinced about, as I don’t typically feel sad. However, I exhibit all the signs of someone suffering from extreme depression.

As a lifestyle expert, I’d share that my personal experience has been grappling with issues such as cognitive cloudiness, memory lapses, and diminished mental clarity, along with a noticeable dip in my usual vibrant outlook.

The performer elaborated, expressing her belief that the rapid shifts in her life are the root cause of her difficulties.

She noted: “I believe the reason is that my entire life has undergone a transformation. Now, the activities I cherish most are accompanied by additional responsibilities. For instance, when I go thrift shopping, I must arrange for security measures and accept that this won’t feel like typical outings anymore.

How can I engage in activities like visiting the park, doing Pilates, or practicing Yoga safely, without the risk of being stalked or harassed?

It comes after Chappell compared fame to ‘an abusive ex-husband’.

In her chat with The Face magazine, she described fame as similar to being in a toxic relationship. She likened the unwanted attention, online harassment, and persistent stalking to that of an overbearing and abusive ex-spouse.

‘That’s what it feels like. I didn’t know it would feel this bad.’

Nevertheless, Chappell acknowledged that she continues to appreciate positive comments from her followers, stating casually: “People often say, ‘She’s quite intense,’ and I guess that’s alright.

Instead of frequently hearing “Oh my God, you have such a good vibe,” I don’t usually get that compliment, but when I do, it carries significant weight. This stems from my childhood desire to be seen as a good person and believing in myself, so it’s especially meaningful when others acknowledge that aspect of me.

I find myself unable to check my DMs anymore due to the overwhelming amount of tears they prompt. However, when someone says, “Whatever you’re doing, it’s helping me,” I feel that no prize or monetary compensation could possibly match the value of such a heartfelt compliment.

My primary concern is creating room for others to experience liberty, as it was the very freedom I yearned for so deeply myself.

In her recent interview, she responded following the controversy that ensued when she responded to a photographer who had shouted an inappropriate remark during last week’s VMAs red carpet event, where she was adjusting her attire.

The rising entertainer has earned a reputation for being a complainer, with one fan on X hilariously suggesting she change her name to ‘Chappell Moan.’

In late August she took to TikTok to slam fans who cross her boundaries.

“She asked the online community, ‘If you happened to see a stranger on the street, would you shout something out of your car window at her for a moment?’

She continued, ‘Would you harass her in public? Would you go up to a random lady and say, “Can I take a photo with you?” and she says, “No, what the f***?” — and then you get mad at this random lady?’

Roan openly discusses the drawbacks of fame, refusing privately and publicly the notion that she must tolerate unwanted attention as her popularity increases.

In my own words, I firmly believe and express, “I reject the notion that mistreatment, such as abuse, harassment, and stalking, is somehow an accepted behavior towards individuals, regardless of their fame level.

I understand the norm, but it doesn’t affect my feelings. The eccentricities often associated with this profession do not sway my commitment to my chosen career path.

Just because it happens, doesn’t mean it’s acceptable or commonplace. It doesn’t imply my desire for it or approval.
