A soccer star has accused a pop star of making the daughter of a movie star cry.
Chappell Roan, who previously spoke out about unwanted attention from fans and intentionally slowed down her career to safeguard her personal life, was recently accused by soccer player Jorginho of mistreating his family.
Roan performed as the headliner at Lollapalooza Brazil over the weekend, and footballer Jorginho was there with his family. According to People magazine, Jorginho said his 11-year-old daughter was excited to see the singer while they were eating at their hotel in São Paulo. She quietly walked over to Roan’s table to make sure it was him, smiled, and returned to her mother, without saying a word or asking for an autograph.
He didn’t reveal the girl’s name, but his wife, Catherine Harding (also known as Cat Cavelli), shares an 11-year-old child with actor Jude Law. Harding is an Irish singer-songwriter.
Jorginho claims that a security guard interrupted their breakfast shortly after the girl sat down, making things unpleasant for them. The guard reportedly told the girl’s mother that she shouldn’t let her daughter ‘disrespect’ or ‘harass’ others.
Flamengo player Jorge Luiz Frello Filho, known as Jorginho, said the girl was very upset and cried extensively.
Jorginho understands the experience of being well-known and having a fanbase – something Jude Law can also relate to.
Jorginho, in a message to his 5 million Instagram followers, explained that recent events weren’t a case of fans overstepping their limits, as he’s experienced that before.
Roan addressed the situation on Instagram Sunday, clarifying that the security guard wasn’t hired for her personal protection. She also stated that she hadn’t been disturbed by anyone, even an enthusiastic young fan.
I didn’t tell the security guard to approach the mother and child. They didn’t come to me, and they weren’t causing any problems.
“I do not hate people who are fans of my music. I do not hate children.”
She apologized to the girl and her mother. A spokesperson for the artist didn’t respond to a request for comment from The Times right away.
Roan has proven she’s willing to address inappropriate fan behavior. This recent situation is similar to an incident earlier this month in Paris, where she recorded a video of herself while fans shouted around her.
In a video taken by a bystander, the woman explains she’s simply trying to enjoy dinner and has repeatedly asked the group to leave her alone.
Even as she calmly reprimands them, one man continues to ask for her autograph.
