Chappell Roan pulls the last-minute plug on two shows: ‘Things have gotten overwhelming’
As a devoted fan of Chappell Roan, I have been captivated by her journey from the Midwest to the glitz and glamour of L.A., documented so poignantly in her album “The Rise and Fall of a Midwest Princess.” Her raw talent, infectious energy, and unapologetic honesty have made her a beacon for Gen Z and beyond.
At the very last moment, Chappell Roan has decided to postpone her All Things Go festival performances in New York City and Washington D.C., explaining that she needs to prioritize her mental well-being.
I’m truly sorry to those who were looking forward to catching me in NYC and DC this weekend at All Things Go, but unfortunately, I won’t be able to perform,” wrote the singer of Pink Pony Club on her Instagram story on Friday. “The past few weeks have been quite a challenge for me, and I’m really feeling the strain.
She wrote, ‘I’m dealing with multiple demands currently and I really must focus on my well-being. I aim to deliver top-notch performances, so I need a short break to ensure that happens. Thanks for your understanding; see you again soon, with love.’
On Friday, neither Roan’s representatives nor the organizers of the festival provided an immediate response when The Times asked for a comment.
As many social media users expressed well wishes and hope for her health, a few made it apparent that they were displeased instead.
“not us finding out Chappell Roan canceled her All Things Go NYC appearance while already on the plane to NYC,” one TikTok read, ranking it among the “top 10 worst anime betrayals.”
A different individual, who had purchased festival tickets solely to watch Roan perform, expressed disappointment upon learning about the cancellation, yet maintained a calm demeanor towards the artist.
She remarked, “Consider how disheartening it would feel to see her performing up there without enjoying herself.” One aspect that makes me adore her so deeply is witnessing her joy on stage.
Last year, Roan achieved popularity among Generation Z with her “The Rise and Fall of a Midwest Princess” album and subsequent tour. This recording documented her experiences in, departures from, and travels within Los Angeles since 2018, as she strived to succeed in the music business.
Lately, Roan has been using TikTok to address her followers directly about a topic she refers to as the mistreatment and harassment of celebrities by fans. She made it clear that her statements were aimed at curbing fans’ inappropriate actions, which she describes as ‘unsettling behavior.’
She stated that she doesn’t feel obligated to reciprocate energy, time, or attention towards people she’s unfamiliar with, mistrusts, or finds uncomfortable, simply because they show admiration. It’s important to remember that women are not required to provide a reason for not wanting physical contact or conversation.
Additionally, Roan encountered criticism following her statement about abstaining from endorsing any political candidate during a recent interview with The Guardian.
She expressed frustration with numerous aspects of the government, stating there’s a lot she’d like to alter. She added that challenges exist on all fronts and urged everyone to exercise their reasoning abilities.
Following the widespread sharing of her “both sides” statement, many online critics perceived her as straddling party lines and avoiding a clear stance. However, Roan clarified on TikTok that her words were misrepresented and she was actually speaking out of context.
1) Her intended meaning behind her words wasn’t fully grasped, as she had stated. She advocated for her audience to cast their votes while maintaining a critical stance towards power holders and the administration. In a separate clip, she revealed her intention to support Vice President Kamala Harris in upcoming elections.
What I do is more important than what I say, and I want to make it clear that I’m not trying to appear neutral by taking positions on either side – instead, I’m genuinely seeking to understand and evaluate both perspectives.
