Chaotic new British sitcom confirmed with “something magic” that’s ‘not been seen in a sitcom before’

A “magic” new sitcom is coming to Channel 4.

In the film titled “Stepping Up“, Josh Pugh takes on the role of Josh, a lively and eager stepfather, trying to find his place in his newly formed family circle.

In the six-part series, we delve into the daily struggles of a stepfather navigating complex relationships in Britain, as he attempts to raise children who are not his own: entangled in multiple love triangles involving his partner, ex-wife, child, and biological father, there’s no straightforward solution.

Josh yearns to demonstrate that he’s the exemplary role model for his stepchildren, a wonderful partner for his girlfriend, and simply a great guy overall.

In essence, it seems that Josh finds himself in a situation where everyone around him appears content and prefers him to ease off his persistent efforts to assist and impress them constantly. Despite not requiring his assistance, he continues to go above and beyond. A possible rephrased version could be: “It seems that no one needs Josh’s relentless attempts at helping or impressing, yet everyone around him appears content. Nevertheless, Josh persists in taking on more responsibilities.

Also written by Pugh, a release date and further casting will be announced in due course.

After a successful premiere on Channel 4’s Comedy Blaps segment, the show named Stepping Up is now being commissioned. This move mirrors the path taken by popular comedy series such as Stath Lets Flats, We Are Lady Parts, Home, Chewing Gum, and Pushers.

Before its launch, Pugh expressed great excitement, stating that he felt “extremely thrilled” to be creating a sitcom, an opportunity that not many individuals get to experience throughout their lives.

I was raised in a quaint, small-town setting, surrounded by my step-parents, which I find brimming with unexplored comedic potential.

I aim to create a comedic and genuine television series in Britain, focusing on the challenges of raising children who aren’t one’s own. This show aims to authentically depict the experiences of many individuals dealing with this situation, while also potentially generating significant financial success.

Charlie Perkins, the comedy chief at Channel 4, stated: “Josh has an extraordinary natural talent that I believe hasn’t been seen in a sitcom before – he’s mesmerizing on screen and his writing, skillfully guided by Roughcut, offers a unique blend of extreme silliness and extreme realism.

In a straightforward and casual manner: “A fresh, talented comedic actor has emerged on the small screen in a familiar sitcom setting. Channel 4 is thrilled to be continuing our collaboration with Josh by featuring ‘Stepping Up’ as part of our lineup.

Steve Monger, the executive producer at Roughcut TV, commented: “Josh is an incredibly gifted writer, actor, comedian, and ruler of social media skits. In the show Stepping Up, he’s crafted a uniquely hilarious and invigorating spin on the family sitcom that we are thrilled to be producing alongside Josh and Channel 4. We can’t wait to bring it to the Midlands!
