Chaos Strikes Only Fools And Horses Musical as Emergency Forces Evacuation on Opening Night!
On Monday, the performance of “Only Fools And Horses: The Musical” had to be stopped abruptly due to an unexpected medical incident that occurred at The Winter Gardens in Blackpool.
As I was enjoying an evening at the theater, I found myself unexpectedly involved in an incident during the intermission. A fellow audience member took unwell, prompting us to be swiftly evacuated from our seats. The second act of the show had to be postponed while paramedics responded promptly to the scene. It was certainly an unusual experience that evening, but I hope my companion got the care they needed.
Currently traveling across the UK is “Only Fools and Horses: The Musical,” which stars Paul Whitehouse in the role of Grandad. After a successful four-year run in London’s West End that was completely sold out, this production has now hit the road.
On Tuesday, the Winter Gardens announced that they would address the recent incident and provide options for those impacted. They stated that ticket holders could switch their tickets to another date or opt for a refund instead.
Visitors promptly commended the theater, where the musical is playing until May 3rd, for the swift actions and composed reactions of its staff during the incident.
Last night at the performance of ‘Only Fools and Horses The Musical’ at The Winter Gardens, an unexpected health issue arose with a spectator during the intermission, specifically in the front section of the auditorium.

The situation required it, following standard procedures for such events, and so the choice was made to clear the theater and reschedule the rest of the performance.
We’ll be sending out emails to everyone whose ticket was impacted today. The email will provide comprehensive instructions on transferring your tickets to another performance this week, or requesting a refund if you can’t make it to an alternative date.
Let me express my heartfelt gratitude to our team, the guest organization, and the emergency responders for their immediate and proficient actions.
‘Our thoughts and well wishes are with the individual involved and their family at this time.
‘We thank everyone for their patience and understanding during these exceptional circumstances.’
In their comments, theater attendees praised the swift and professional response from your staff during the recent medical incident.
Working in a theater isn’t as simple as just vacating the premises, it requires careful planning. Wishing you a speedy and complete recovery for the patient. May they get well soon.
Considering the lady nearby who’s voicing her dissatisfaction about the situation, suggesting a refund for all costs incurred; maybe it would be beneficial to reflect on others’ experiences occasionally instead of solely focusing on one’s own. Perhaps patience and empathy towards the patient and their family members might be more appropriate here?”
Or shorter:
“Instead of only thinking about herself, perhaps the woman could consider the experience of others, especially in this situation involving a patient and their loved ones.

Others commented, “You handled that tricky situation impressively well. Notably, a team member of yours efficiently cleared both the auditorium and the street nearby, ensuring smooth access.
The evacuation process appeared to function exceptionally well. Kudos go out to your team for handling it so competently, with special recognition given to the young woman who led everyone safely out and facilitated swift access for the emergency responders to reach the site.
It’s unfortunate that the incident occurred, particularly on the opening night. The performance, as far as we could tell, was outstanding. Fingers crossed for another opportunity to watch it again.

In December, Sir David Jason commended the “emotional and powerful” musical following its grand premiere.
The 85-year-old actor, known for playing Derek ‘Del Boy’ Trotter in the cherished BBC comedy series, expressed that the stage production evoked tears from him, as it triggered a flood of memories connected to his time within the show.

At London’s Eventim Apollo, while talking to The Sun, David found the performance “hilarious.” He went on to say that he appreciated how much of the original script was utilized, and how skillfully it was executed that at times it caught him off guard, causing him to chuckle.
In essence, the entire performance brought back memories for me; the script, the characters, everything felt delightful as I reminisced about it all.
Reflecting on some of the excellent personalities and performers who are now gone, I must admit, it almost made me shed a tear.
