Channing Tatum’s ‘White House Down’ Now Available for Free Streaming – Don’t Miss It!

In this rephrased version:

Tatum, who is often referred to as The Tate by his friends (and if they don’t, they should), finds himself in a challenging situation in his action-packed thriller that resembles the “Die Hard” genre and will soon be available for free streaming. Given that he is outnumbered, outgunned, and possibly out of his depth, it could be said that he might struggle to keep up with the intense action scenes. Notably, this film shares a resemblance to Gerard Butler’s more successful franchise.

Every so often, it seems like fate has a soft spot for movie lovers, assembling a string of films offering remarkably similar stories in a short span of time. Classics such as Volcano, Dante’s Peak, Deep Impact, and Armageddon are prime examples of this phenomenon. When it comes to more recent instances, I can’t help but think of the action-packed duo White House Down and Olympus Has Fallen. In the former, I found myself on the edge of my seat as Channing Tatum portrayed a seasoned hero who had to safeguard both his daughter and the President of the United States after terrorists invaded the White House.

Under the direction of Roland Emmerich and a script by James Vanderbilt, the film titled White House Down is set to premiere on June 1. This high-octane action-thriller stars Channing Tatum, Jamie Foxx, Maggie Gyllenhaal, Jason Clarke, Richard Jenkins, Joey King, and James Woods. For a sneak peek before its release, you can read the official summary provided below.

John Cale, a Capitol police officer, was recently turned down for his dream job of serving as part of the Secret Service to protect President James Sawyer. To avoid disappointing his young daughter, he decides to take her on a tour of the White House instead. Unfortunately, during their visit, a heavily armed paramilitary group invades and takes over the premises. With the government in turmoil, it’s only John Cale who can save his daughter, the president, and the country itself.

Gerard Butler’s ‘Has Fallen’ Franchise Left White House Down in the Dust

Unlike what one might expect, just as Olympus Has Fallen could’ve ignited an action series, a follow-up for White House Down has never come to fruition. Interestingly, both films received comparable feedback from critics and audiences, although Channing Tatum’s performance garnered slightly better reviews from critics (52% vs 50% on Rotten Tomatoes) and only marginally lower ratings from the audience (62% compared to 66% on Popcornmeter).

Consequently, it’s not surprising that no sequel has been made, given the disparity in box office earnings. For instance, “White House Down” amassed a total of $205 million globally against its production budget of $150 million, while “Olympus Has Fallen” managed to earn $170 million with a much lower budget of $70 million. It’s worth noting that the two films being quite similar may have contributed to this situation, as even a Google search for “White House Down sequel” often leads you directly to “London Has Fallen”.

Although Channing Tatum might not reprise his role as a president protector, he has an abundance of other projects on the horizon. After tirelessly working towards it and advocating for it, Tatum finally portrayed the much-loved X-Men character, Gambit, in Deadpool & Wolverine. This part will also be seen again in the highly anticipated MCU film, Avengers: Doomsday. Beyond his Marvel roles, Tatum will appear in the crime drama Roofman alongside Kirsten Dunst, Ben Mendelsohn, and Peter Dinklage, and the thriller Josephine alongside Gemma Chan.
