Channel Ten staff given shock ultimatum amid sweeping job cuts – one week after The Project was axed

Under financial strain, television network Channel Ten is cutting positions. Employees at the Adelaide newsroom have been informed they must move out of state or risk losing their jobs, following closely on the heels of last week’s cancellation of The Project.

On a Monday, staff members at the South Australian branch of the network received notice that two manufacturing employees might lose their jobs, unless they agreed to move to either Sydney or Melbourne by accepting the offered relocation.

The action is a piece of a larger plan to reduce expenses throughout the organization, and it involves similar instructions for employees to relocate, which have also been given in Brisbane and Perth.

It’s said that a total of eight jobs could potentially be impacted in the three cities. These jobs seem to mainly involve experienced video editors.

After a challenging year marked by upheaval, the network has decided to undergo significant changes. Last week, they announced that The Project, a staple of their lineup for 16 years and over 4,500 episodes, would be temporarily removed from their schedule.

The last episode is scheduled to broadcast on June 27th, after which a single evening national news update will take its place.

As I, an over-the-moon fan, eagerly await the big day, Channel Ten is charging ahead with their massive makeover, gearing up to debut their exciting new current affairs program!

On the Project, Waleed Aly, Sarah Harris, and Hamish Macdonald have announced their departure from the network. Meanwhile, comedian Sam Taunton will persist with his guest roles across various Ten programs.

On June 27th, the final episode is scheduled to air, as the discussion segment will be temporarily taken over by a fresh news-focused program instead.

Following the announcement that The Project would conclude on Monday, Ten unveiled a fresh statement revealing the launch of a revamped news program.

10 News Plus, a top-tier news broadcast, will make its debut on Monday, June 30th, airing at 6:00 PM on both Channel 10 and the streaming platform, 10Play.

10 News+ will air nationwide following Network 10’s 5pm local newscasts, providing in-depth coverage and analysis on key events happening throughout the day.

As reported by Paramount Australia, the intention is to revolutionize evening news by offering thorough analysis, reliable reporting, and in-depth investigative journalism.

Adapting to Australia’s ever-changing media landscape, our news program can be accessed through both traditional broadcasting and online streaming. Additionally, it will be accessible on various digital and social media platforms.

Denham Hitchcock, a previous 7News journalist, and Amelia Brace, a recipient of the Walkley Award, will regularly appear on our news broadcasts at 6 PM from Sunday through Thursday.

Ursula Heger and Hugh Riminton will take the lead during the Friday broadcast.

The main broadcasting crew will have journalists such as Ashleigh Raper, Bill Hogan, Brianna Parkins, Samantha Butler, Carrie-Anne Greenbank, and Claudia Vrdoljak assisting them.

Under Angela Bishop, Ten’s Entertainment Editor, you can expect a deep understanding of the most significant news in the entertainment industry, covering glamorous red-carpet happenings and unique conversations with Hollywood’s top stars.

Regarding the latest show, Martin White, Vice President of News at Paramount Australia, expressed his enthusiasm for the dedicated team responsible for the program and the diligent effort put in backstage to make it broadcast-ready.

He mentioned that their focus will be on prioritizing honesty, catering to the needs of their audience, and delivering impactful narratives effectively, which is what they excel in with this new initiative.

We’ve brought together an exceptional group of individuals, with Denham and Amelia at the helm. I’m eagerly looking forward to sharing the fruits of their dedication with everyone.

10 News+ premieres Monday, 30 June at 6pm on Channel 10 and 10 Play.
