As a lifestyle expert with extensive experience in media and entertainment, I have to say that the ongoing debate surrounding Mark Humphries’ satirical segment on Channel Seven is certainly intriguing. Having worked in various aspects of television myself, I can appreciate the challenges that come with creating content that appeals to a broad audience.

Channel Seven funnyman Mark Humphries has stepped up to hit back at his critics.

The 31-year-old stand-up comic has faced criticism for his weekly satire segment, which wraps up the 7News broadcast every Friday evening.

6.57pm News segment has been criticized by viewers for being humorless, awkward, and foolish.

However, Humphries is countering those critics who caused a stir with his latest comedy sketch, first shown a month ago.

He mentioned to Sunday Confidential that one advantage of the 6:57pm News is that, if it doesn’t suit your preferences, you can easily predict when to skip it instead.

In another part of the conversation, Humphries playfully took aim at those who argued that he wasn’t accountable for his humor.

He isn’t certain who specifically at Seven Productions might provide him with a script, but if someone does, he’s open to receiving it; doing so would undeniably spare him the effort of writing one in collaboration with his usual co-writer instead.

Additionally, Humphries proudly announced that the 6.57 pm News has gained popularity on TikTok, a platform where the comedian has amassed over 18,000 followers.

Viewers have been divided over Humphries’ spot, with many sharing their distaste n social media.

‘It was a deplorable segment that has no place in a news bulletin,’ one said.

Another person mentioned, ‘Now everyone can take a break for a relaxing moment, perhaps even enjoy some hot cocoa, before Home and Away comes on.’

On the contrary, certain supporters rallied behind the comedian, asserting that his program surpasses other news shows on Australian television.

“Brought to mind the genius of Clarke and Dawe,” I exclaimed, nodding towards the iconic duo who graced our screens on Channel 9 and later ABC with their sharp satire until 2017. Their wit never fails to astound me!

‘Loved this,’ said another.

‘Better than The Project,’ was another comment.

The change comes as a result of numerous updates initiated by the new head of news and current affairs at Channel Seven, Anthony De Ceglie.

He updated Seven’s news program by adding Humphries’ satirical sketch and a daily astrology segment.

Meanwhile there are reports of a cost-cutting bloodbath at the network under the new management.

Recently, some well-known figures have surfaced in the network, such as experienced professionals like Robert Ovadia, Andrew Frampton, and Melbourne crime reporter Cameron Baud, affectionately called the ‘Harvester of Sorrow’ by friends because of his work on a somber news segment.

Longtime news professional Sharyn Ghidella, well-known for her extensive experience as a presenter, was likewise let go from the network following nearly four decades of service in the broadcasting field.

On Facebook, Ghidella expressed her dislike for the television network’s revamp of their news shows.

Some viewers pushed back against the changes.

A viewer expressed their displeasure by saying, ‘After firing Sharyn Ghidella, you now have an unamusing, seemingly ignorant person as your final news segment.’

On the social media site once called Twitter, they expressed, “I won’t ever tune into Seven News again.”

As a devoted fan, I rose to prominence gracing the screens of ABC, primarily on their renowned satirical show, The Roast, but also making appearances on prestigious programs such as 7.30 and Insiders.

In 2019, an Australian adaptation of the British TV show “Pointless,” hosted by a comedian, was discontinued after just four months. The comedian shared later that the reason for its cancellation in Australia was due to the lack of humorous interplay compared to the original UK version.

Humphries has also previously appeared on SBS’ The Feed and ABC’s Insiders.
