Production on Channel Seven’s new home renovation show, My Reno Rules, has been temporarily stopped after builders found a dangerous health hazard at a house in Melbourne.
According to sources familiar with the show, Adrian ‘Mr Lambo’ Portelli bought two properties for filming that were later found to contain asbestos, as reported by the Daily Mail.
Production was temporarily halted for two days recently when a hazardous, cancer-causing material was discovered on set. Specialists were called in to safely remove it before filming could continue, according to sources close to the production.
Many homes built before 1990 may contain asbestos, a material often used in kitchens and bathrooms during that time.
A source close to the show said filming was paused for a few days and the cast and crew were sent home.
The Asbestos and Silica Safety and Eradication Agency estimates that asbestos, a cancer-causing material, is present in about one-third of homes across Australia.

Channel Seven and Portelli have been approached for comment.
Property records show Adrian Portelli, also known as ‘Mr Lambo’, purchased the two homes for a combined $2.7 million in May.
According to reports, Portelli, a supporter of MRR, bought the properties through his company, Xclusive Tech Pty Ltd, and then gifted them to the show.
Launched in July, My Reno Rules has been promoted by Portelli as a competitor to the popular Channel Nine show, The Block.
But chaos has surrounded the show for months.
The new show, created by the team behind MasterChef, will follow four renovation teams as they compete to transform two run-down houses next door to each other in Melbourne.
Just weeks after the show was announced, a builder walked off the set.
There’s been some talk about whether Portelli might appear on screen now that he’s joined the show’s team.

As a lifestyle expert, I’ve been following the rise of this entrepreneur – everyone calls him ‘Mr Lambo’ – and it’s fascinating to see how he’s built his personal brand. He’s 36 and consistently uses social media to position himself as a key figure in his industry, really becoming the face people associate with it.
Sources familiar with the struggling production have revealed to the Daily Mail that Portelli maintains a very low profile on set.
Seven announced last month that Portelli will be in charge of the show’s live prize giveaway.
Although there have been claims he’s actively involved, a source close to the situation told the Daily Mail they haven’t seen any proof of that.
The new show, My Reno Rules, will be hosted by Dr. Chris Brown, who will be the sole host.
According to a source at Daily Mail, Portelli is just sponsoring the show. They also said filming was significantly delayed because the initial contractor quit the project.
Oh my gosh, you won’t BELIEVE the drama! They were supposed to start filming on September 26th, but when October rolled around, everything was almost TWO MONTHS behind! I was constantly checking for updates, and it was so stressful waiting to find out what was happening! Seriously, two months! I was worried it would never happen!
A source close to the show clarified that reports claiming the homes weren’t prepared for television are inaccurate.

They explained that the main problem was the production team’s search for a replacement contractor.
Someone with knowledge of the construction project in Bulleen said the original building company left because of a payment dispute.
When contacted for a statement, a representative for both Portelli and Seven confirmed that filming for My Reno Rules was still in the works.
We’re still talking with a number of builders as we prepare for construction, according to a recent statement.
Building will begin later this year, and the show will first air on Seven and 7plus in 2026.
Portelli officially turned his back on Channel Nine’s The Block in July this year.
After spending millions buying homes on the show over the past three seasons, the investor announced on social media that he’s leaving the series permanently.
