Channel Seven stars ‘fear for their jobs’ amid major change to the network

Channel Seven stars are reportedly on edge amid rumours of a major change to the network.

Rumors are spreading that Seven Network might merge with Southern Cross Austereo, and this has reportedly made some of Seven’s well-known personalities, like Larry Emdur, Kylie Gillies, and Mark Beretta, anxious about their future.

According to a source, business professionals expect further job cuts whenever companies merge.

Interestingly, Beretta was absent last Monday morning, right after a busy weekend of sports.

According to a source, Larry and Kylie, the hosts of The Morning Show, are likely the most concerned about potential changes because of their high salaries.

A lot of people think the show should be restarted, and there’s a feeling that the impact on employment isn’t a priority – it’s all about profit, they said.

This follows the recent layoff of Channel Seven sports editor Matt Carmichael, who had a long and successful career at the network.

The 44-year-old was informed he was being let go, ending his 23 years with the network.

Matt is taking a long break after dedicating himself to writing excellent scripts, according to an email sent to staff by Seven’s news and current affairs director, Ray Kuka, as reported by News Corp.

Matt has spent twenty years at Seven, but he’ll be leaving next month, appropriately enough, right after the Bathurst 1000 race.

He’s contributed to seven different programs, including Sunrise, as well as the network’s news broadcasts airing in the afternoons, at 6 PM, and in the mornings.

Carmichael covered the Olympics, Commonwealth Games and a host of other sporting events.

He’s covered major sporting events around the world, including the Tokyo Games in 2021, the Beijing Olympics in 2008 where he interviewed the legendary Kobe Bryant, and the Australian Open tennis tournament.

Carmichael was a remarkably adaptable sports commentator, covering a wide range of events including Australian Rules Football, rugby, boxing, cricket, and motorsports.

Only two weeks after its first season, the branded content series House of Wellness also made significant changes to its on-screen talent.

Channel Seven’s popular show has reportedly let go of some cast members and brought in new stars, while keeping a few original actors on board.

Mel Doyle and Shane Crawford were back for another season, joined by new cast member Dr. Ahmed Kazmi, a dermatologist. Yvie Jones, who previously appeared as a guest, is now a full-time cast member.

Notably absent from this season were Archie Thompson, Dr. Renee Lim, Josh Piterman, Dr. Andrew Rochford, and Abbey Holmes, all of whom appeared in season one.

TV Tonight reports that the producers of House of Wellness were looking for more stability with the show’s on-screen talent.
