Channel Seven set to air INXS special featuring behind-the-scenes footage from their iconic Wembley Stadium performance – after the band won the Triple J Hottest 100 Australian Songs poll

Channel Seven will soon broadcast a unique documentary, offering viewers a peek at the backstage action from one of the most memorable moments in Australian rock music history.

This unique performance is titled “INXS: Live at Wembley” and offers a close-up perspective of the renowned band INXS’s epic 1991 concert in London, where they mesmerized 72,000 dedicated fans.

In this documentary, the experienced host Michael Usher serves as the narrator. It includes intimate conversations with INXS band members Jon Farriss and Kirk Pengilly.

Famous musicians will share personal stories about their groundbreaking Wembley Stadium concert, walking the audience step-by-step through this significant milestone in music’s timeline.

This version maintains the original meaning while using simpler language and a more natural conversational tone.

One of the standout moments in INXS’ career was their electrifying performance at Wembley Stadium, an experience that was later immortalized on a multi-platinum album titled “Live Baby Live”.

INXS: Live at Wembley will screen on Channel Seven and 7Plus on Sunday, August 10. 

Following the coronation of INXS’ iconic 1987 power ballad “Never Tear Us Apart” at the top spot on Triple J’s annual list of Australia’s favorite songs, it took the lead position.

My favorite tune claimed the number one position, surpassing both “The Nosebleed Section” by Hilltop Hoods and “Untouched” by The Veronicas.

On Saturday, July 26th, the ballad, having gathered a total of 2.64 million votes, was declared the greatest Australian song ever written.

In May, INXS shot back onto the music charts, more than a decade after they broke up. 

The group made a significant impact on the UK music scene by reaching the top of the charts following the 40th anniversary rerelease of their groundbreaking, fifth studio album titled “Listen Like Thieves.

Initially launched in October 1985, the album became the first for the band to leave an impact on a worldwide level.

The album, which came out in October 1985, was the first by the group to gain international recognition.

Listen Like Thieves had several hit singles, such as the title song “Listen Like Thieves” and “Kiss the Dirt (While Falling Down the Mountain)”.

In addition to this song being successful, “What You Need” also gained popularity. It reached the second spot in Australia and the fifth position on Billboard’s Hot 100 when it was first released.

This past year, I couldn’t believe my luck when the re-release of Listen Like Thieves took over four brand new UK charts – unheard of back when the original record dropped!

For a span of 35 years, it was the drummer Jon Farriss who declared in November 2012 that the band INXS would cease their joint tours.

INXS carried on performing with frontman Michael Hutchence until his sad passing in Sydney, 1997, at the age of 37. Tragically, he took his own life in a hotel room.

Michael tragically passed away at the Intercontinental Hotel Double Bay (formerly the Ritz Carlton), Sydney, amidst depression and under the influence of alcohol and drugs.

The Australian group was one of the world’s most successful rock bands in the late ’80s.

Since their establishment in 1977, they dominated the music charts with hits such as “Need You Tonight”, “Good Times”, “New Sensation” and “Kick”.

One of Australia’s top-selling bands ever, they have managed to sell more than 50 million albums globally.

The 2011 compilation album with their biggest hits has remained on the ARIA top 100 albums chart for an astonishing 636 weeks, breaking a record – Their success after its release was likely boosted by the 2014 Channel Seven mini-series titled Never Tear Us Apart that revolved around the band.
