Channel Seven Reporter Embarrassingly Ushered Away by Police at AFL Game
A Channel Seven journalist’s embarrassing run in with the police has been caught on camera.
Spectators winced as an enthusiastic reporter was escorted away by law enforcement officers near the Melbourne Cricket Ground prior to the major AFL match between Carlton and Richmond on Thursday.
In the video, the journalist was spotted conversing with some football supporters, all adorned in black and white Carlton scarves while making their way into the stadium.
The reporter encouraged football supporters to move nearer and shout for the camera, stirring excitement among them from the sideline.
After completing the segment, a police officer moved towards the journalist and quickly escorted her off, while her cameraman looked on.
Alternatively, Upon wrapping up the segment, a police officer stepped forward to guide the journalist away, with her cameraman observing.
She was observed gently patting the officer’s arm while he was asking her to leave, which led her to quickly run off.

Over the last few weeks, Channel Seven has made news as several female journalists have chosen to depart from the network.
Laura Spurway, who joined Channel Seven in 2021, is the latest star to be booted.
At the tail-end of February, the sports reporter was let go, and this information was conveyed through a private email sent by a colleague journalist.
Hello everyone, I wanted to let you all know that I’ll be wrapping up today because I was informed my contract won’t be extended.” (The email stated this as reported by The Herald Sun)
I’m sorry I can’t meet with everyone face-to-face, but I want to express my gratitude for your assistance and guidance throughout the past four years.”
Or alternatively,
“I apologize for not being able to see you all in person, but I appreciate the help and advice you’ve given me over the past four years.
‘I wish you all the best in your travels at Seven, Laura.’
It’s thought that the reporter was let go to create a spot for Xander McGuire, who recently joined the sports team.
According to The Herald Sun, these dismissals of prominent female employees, as well as others, have sparked whispers within the organization that it could devolve into an exclusive “men-only” environment.

Following the announcement by sports presenter Abbey Gelmi, she’s set to depart from Channel Seven after nearly two years in her position.
Since April 2022, Gelmi has served as a weekend sports newsreader. However, she informed the Herald Sun that she intends to advance to the next stage in her career.
She expressed that, during her time at Seven, she’s encountered numerous amazing chances. However, she feels now is the perfect moment to embark on a new phase in her journey.
‘I’m forever grateful for the experience and life long friends gained.’
Gelmi, who recently took over as the host for ABC’s Offsiders, stated that it was a joint agreement to end their association.
In a statement, Chris Salter, Director at Seven News, noted that Abbey has extensively reported on various sports events such as the Olympics, Australian Football League (AFL), cricket, motor racing, and horse racing.
‘She excels in every area, and she departs Seven leaving behind some enduring friendships. It’s clear that she will thrive in any endeavor she decides to pursue next.’
