Channel Nine star in talks to accept plum radio gig in Sydney

It seems that Brooke Boney might return to Australia for a highly desirable radio position, approximately a year since she took a break from the Today show to pursue studies in England.

As a die-hard admirer penning this message, I can’t contain my excitement about the potential news! The legendary Boney, aged 38, is rumored to be weighing an offer to join Nova FM as their Sydney newsreader! This comes after she wraps up her grueling yet intellectually enriching one-year Master of Public Policy degree at the prestigious Oxford University. According to Media Diary’s reports, it seems this might just be the next chapter in Boney’s illustrious career. Fingers crossed for an official confirmation!

The presenter left the Today show shortly after the Paris Olympics.

However, Boney may face stiff competition for the position.

Television stalwart Abbey Gelmi, recently recruited by ABC five half-years ago to helm Offsiders after Kelli Underwood’s six-year reign, is said to be under consideration for a role at Nova as well.

Last August, I found myself emotionally moved as I was bid a heartfelt adieu during my appearance on the Today show.

Back in January 2019, the breakfast show’s news and entertainment reporter received a beautiful bouquet of flowers from her workmates while delivering an emotional speech live on television.

She started by expressing her gratitude to the audience for welcoming her, and acknowledged each person who tunes in daily.

As an ardent admirer, there’s no greater joy than venturing to the hallowed grounds of Oxford. Yet, the genuine affection showered upon me elevates this experience beyond measure. It’s a challenge indeed, to bid adieu from such warmth and camaraderie that surrounds me.

The longtime host expressed gratitude for being part of a significant breakthrough in Indigenous Australian representation on the show, acknowledging the team’s bold decision to give her the opportunity.

Today marked a significant milestone, as we welcomed an Aboriginal host for the first time as a permanent morning show host – a groundbreaking move in our country. Nowadays, it has become commonplace in this time slot to feature diverse hosts like this. I take great pride in this achievement.

As a devoted admirer putting pen to paper, I’d like to echo the heartfelt sentiments of Karl Stefanovic: “You, dear Brooke, are adored for all that you embody, and your unwavering dedication never ceases to amaze us. There is an instant bond between you and everyone around you.

Simultaneously, co-host Sarah Abo expressed her pride in Brooke and wished her success for the future.

In March 2024, Boney shocked viewers when she announced her resignation live on air.

Boney announced some fantastic news earlier – he’s been accepted into Oxford University starting later this year, which means he won’t be a part of the show after the Olympics.

Let me avoid delving deeply for the moment, as we have ample time later for farewells and expressions of gratitude. However, I felt compelled to break the news – be it good or bad – to everyone this morning.

Boney admitted the decision to leave her role on the program was ‘really difficult’.

She shared that for some time now, her ambition has been to pursue higher education at a foreign institution, and it simply seemed like the perfect moment to make that move.
