Channel 5 announces huge rebrand with new name and streaming model as broadcaster confirms return of two beloved shows

As a long-time enthusiast of British television and its captivating narratives, I find the recent rebranding announcement by Channel 5 to be nothing short of exhilarating! Having grown up with the channel’s unique blend of drama, comedy, and reality shows, it’s heartening to see them embrace the streaming era. The return of beloved series like All Creatures Great and Small and Dalgliesh is a testament to their commitment to delivering quality content that resonates with viewers.

Channel 5 has announced a major rebrand including a new name and streaming model.

As a devoted follower, I’m thrilled to share that the channel, now known as just ‘5’, has made a promise to its viewers. Two cherished shows are set to make a comeback!

In a move similar to their competitor Channel 4, the UK television channel and its streaming service, My5, will merge into a single, streamlined platform.

Employers may be eagerly seizing the opportunity for higher viewership following a surge in numbers after the debut of My5.

Channel 5 will persist as a conventional advertising-based network, yet it will showcase an increased number of programs originally produced by networks such as MTV, CBS, and Comedy Central, all of which are part of Paramount’s media empire, now in control of the station.

Ben Frow, Paramount UK’s Chief Content Officer, who commissions for Channel 5 and Paramount+ UK, told Deadline that the success of Channel 5 shows on streaming giant Netflix shows they still have their finger on the pulse.

The figures show ‘there’s a huge appetite for [Channel 5] content in the streaming world.’

To capitalize on the enthusiasm for Channel 5, they’ve announced a part of their renovation that includes bringing back beloved series like All Creatures Great and Small and Dalgliesh to keep viewers engaged.

As a devoted fan, I can’t help but be thrilled as the anticipation builds for the upcoming announcement regarding the release date of All Creatures Great and Small on Channel 5. The weeks ahead promise to bring exciting news!

Audience members can look forward to seeing Callum Woodhouse once again portraying the character of Tristan Farnon, Samuel West’s trickster brother who enlisted in the Royal Army Veterinary Corps alongside his brother Siegfried.

It hasn’t been publicly confirmed when the third season of Dalgliesh will air, but Bertie Carvel will reprise his leading role in it.

Season three is based on the book Cover Her Face, which was PD James’ first ever Dalgliesh novel.

The network’s rebrand comes after other major UK channels also overhauled their looks.

In the previous year, Channel 4 revamped its All4 streaming service to be known just as Channel 4, whereas ITV transformed its Hub platform into ITVX and boosted its budget.

Sarah Rose, President of Channel 5 and UK Regional Head of Paramount, stated: “Over the past three years, viewership on My5 has reached unprecedented levels, and as more viewers are embracing streaming, we believe now is the ideal moment to foster a much tighter bond between our linear and streaming platforms.”

Starting from 2025, we’re planning to enhance your viewing experience with fresh, thrilling content and swift channels on Channel 5. This expansion will complement the beloved homegrown hits that our viewers are fond of.
