Channel 4’s beloved series with perfect Rotten Tomatoes score confirms it’s ending
Beloved Channel 4 sitcom Big Boys is sadly coming to an end after three seasons.
The popular series revolves around the camaraderie between college students Jack, portrayed by Dylan Llewellyn, and Danny, played by Jon Pointing. It’s set to come back for its third season in February.
Big Boys” garnered widespread recognition during its broadcast, achieving a perfect 100% score on Rotten Tomatoes and receiving applause for its thoughtful exploration of LGBTQ+ and mental health topics.
Yet, it’s been verified that the upcoming season marks the end of this series. Its creator and narrator, Jack Rooke, has shared his thoughts about the show’s road to the screen in a recent statement.
Approximately ten years ago, I presented a somewhat rundown comedy-theatre show on grief and friendship in a damp cave during the Edinburgh Fringe Festival. I never imagined that a decade later, it would transform into a lighthearted TV series about an ordinary guy and his unlikely best friend who happens to be gay,” he expressed.
My trusted lesbian friend who’s also my therapist proposed an interesting interpretation: “Big Boys” might unconsciously represent my difficulty in bidding farewell to particular individuals or chapters in my life. Giving this series a fitting conclusion, therefore, feels like a significant honor.
From the very start, I was aware of how the story would unfold, yet I hope it captures the essence of our early Edinburgh performances while showcasing the collective brilliance of our talented cast, crew, and creative team. I’ll forever be grateful for the laughter-filled, joyful years we spent together working on ‘Big Boys’ 1-3. Thank you!
In their last year at Brent University, Jack and Danny will experience new episodes filled with challenges such as dating, completing dissertations, meeting deadlines, and the surprising exit of Louis Walsh from “The X Factor.” As they approach real adulthood, their friendship faces trials.
Meanwhile, Peggy and Shannon get involved in new romances and baby nappy changes.
In my opinion, I wholeheartedly agree with Digital Spy’s assessment. This remarkable show has undeniably solidified its position as one of the finest and most impactful British productions from the past ten years.
Big Boys will return on Channel 4 in February.
