Channel 4 reveals which comedian will deliver its alternative Christmas message highlighting discrimination faced by disabled people
As a blind comedian myself, I find Chris’ journey on Strictly Come Dancing truly inspiring. The way he navigated through each dance, relying solely on his partner and the rhythm, is nothing short of extraordinary. His life experience has not only allowed him to develop a unique sense of humor but also to challenge societal norms and expectations.
This year, it’s been announced that a well-known comedian will present an unconventional holiday address on Channel 4.
Chris McCausland will highlight the discrimination disabled people face in a speech on December 25.
47, the visually impaired star, clinched the title of Strictly Come Dancing 2024 alongside his partner, Dianne Buswell, last weekend.
In his Christmas address, he will express that disabled individuals are frequently among the most resourceful, inventive, and tenacious people you’ll probably encounter.
Chris will use a joke about the festive treat mince pies as a metaphor about equality.
He doesn’t discriminate between expensive or inexpensive, large or small, ornate or simple designs; he values them all equally.
‘Regardless of their type, I always treat every mince pie with fairness. To me, they’re all equally delicious, and I can assure you, they all share an equal fate – that is, trying to eat them all at once and ending up a bit messy!’
‘Discrimination is never a good thing. Well, I mean sometimes I suppose. Many, many years ago before I got into comedy, I applied to be a spy for MI5.
‘I got down to the last 30 out of 3,000 applicants.
‘The top 1% of potential spies that this country had to offer before they decided no, a blind spy wasn’t what they were looking for but, you know, I think they had a point.
While I understand that discrimination might occasionally serve a purpose in safeguarding our country, more often than not, there’s room for improvement.
In his initial television interview since being crowned Strictly Come Dancing champion, Chris made a lighthearted jab at Dancing on Ice.
In the upcoming episode of The Wheel, you’ll see Chris join forces with ice dance legends Jayne Torvill and Christopher Dean.
In a sneak peek of the program watched by The Sun, Chris delivered a light-hearted jest about the duo’s career in ice skating.
He said: ‘This is the problem we have got – Torvill and Dean might very well be the GOATs of ice skating but I don’t think that anybody else on this Wheel could name two ice skaters that aren’t Torvill and Dean.
If the question doesn’t involve Torvill and Dean or if the response isn’t ‘Torvill and Dean’, it seems we might be stuck for quite some time!
Torvill and Dean seemed to accept Chris’ joke with humor, as they could be observed chuckling at his remarks.
Radio host Nihal Arthanayake, along with his co-guest, chimed in, admitting, “I’m completely clueless when it comes to ice skating.
Chris is reportedly set to rake in a whopping £1M following last week’s nail-biting finale.
He was crowned champion during the live final on Saturday after beating fellow finalists Tasha Ghouri, JB Gill and Sarah Hadland.
Chris has already added an incredible 100 extra dates to his Yonks comedy tour and according to The Mirror is being lined up for TV presenting and acting gigs – after being said to have helped to save the glitzy competition following a year of scandals.
Public Relations specialist Mark Borkowski expressed to the publication: ‘He didn’t just dance his way to financial success, but brought “Strictly” along with him, transforming what could have been a damaging situation into a captivating story of redemption that attracted widespread attention.’
In his role as a comedian despite being blind, he has surpassed assumptions, achieving a triumph that feels revolutionary yet organic. This success underscores the fact that it’s not just skills or charm, but a combination of both that truly engages an audience.
Before adding: ‘Strictly just polished his star into prime-time gold’.
At the same time, Chris, known for his casual humor, is rumored to be joining a major BBC program as part of an effort to enhance the comedic content on the network.
During his time on Strictly, he didn’t just become the first-ever blind participant in the show, but also won over superiors with his charming sense of humor.
According to a source, the comedian demonstrated on “Strictly” that his humor was not merely amusing, but also authentically rooted in traditional comedy, which resonated deeply with home viewers.
Critics often comment that many BBC comedy series lack something fresh, but Chris might inject a renewed vitality into a genre that used to be one of the corporation’s major strengths.
Prior thoughts involve utilizing Chris’ diverse skills not only for specialized shows but also broad entertainment, as management is considering re-teaming him with his former partner Dianne to rekindle their extraordinary synergy.
TopMob have contacted BBC for comment.
During the final announcement, Chris broke into tears as he was warmly hugged by his celebrity peers. He then exuberantly lifted Dianne above his shoulders, causing the audience to erupt in cheers.
Inquired about their feelings during the event, Tess Daly and Claudia Winkleman were told by Chris: “It’s incredible! I’m lost for words. Honestly, I thought I would be eliminated in the first week or two, even though no one was. I still believed it could happen to me.
“I’ve been pushed to my limits, and Dianne has extracted a great deal from me. She truly deserves that trophy.” He continued to praise her for her inspiring ‘optimism’ and unwavering ‘faith’.
He then joked: ‘Unless she changes her number she’s stuck with me. This is for [Dianne] and everyone out there, it just shows that with the opportunity and support anything is possible!’.
