Channel 4 has confirmed a “deliciously dark” new crime series is on the way starring Glenn Close.

In the forthcoming drama titled “Maud,” acclaimed Hollywood actor Close is set to assume the central character, portraying an older woman known as Maud Oldcastle.

The six-part series was penned by Nina Raine and Moses Raine, inspired by the short story collections “An Elderly Lady is Misbehaving” and “An Elderly Lady Cannot Be Wrong” by Helene Tursten.

The story introduces Glenn Close as Maud Oldcastle – a crabby, gruff, and merciless elderly lady, though these traits are seen as endearing. She carries the burden of a troubled history, making her a lethal character.

Eager to step out of a lifetime dedicated to caring for her sister, Maud embarks on a journey to seize a belated opportunity for herself. However, a cautious detective and an unyielding society geared towards the young might soon uncover just how far she’s willing to go in order to safeguard her independence.

In relation to the latest position, Close, who is additionally a producer for the production, expressed: “It’s an honor for me to collaborate with Channel 4, Sony, and Playground to breathe life into this uniquely creative series.

Nina and Moses Raine are exceptionally talented writers whose work I find delightful. The character of Maud Oldcastle is unique, unlike any role I’ve taken on thus far. It’s an exciting privilege to collaborate with such a remarkable group.

Gwawr Lloyd, acting head of drama at Channel 4, commented that the series titled “Maud” is a captivating, dark, and bold drama. She also mentioned that the incredibly talented Glenn Close will add an exhilarating level of complexity to her role in the production.

We’re thrilled to collaborate with Nina, Moses, Playground, and Sony Pictures Television in breathing life into an extraordinary character. We eagerly anticipate the moment when audiences will get to know Maud Oldcastle.

As a thrilled fan, I’m excited to share that I’ll be part of the crew filming the upcoming Channel 4 series this year right here in the heart of London! The exact air date and additional casting news are still under wraps for now. Keep your eyes peeled for more updates!
