Channel 10’s The Project Faces Cancellation Amid Major Shakeup and Dwindling Ratings
There’s been talk that The Project might not last much longer, as Channel Ten is undergoing significant changes within its news department.
According to The Australian, it appears that the long-running talk show is being thoroughly evaluated due to declining viewership.
In my professional opinion as a lifestyle expert, I’ve come to find that one of the key challenges The Project faces is its struggle to strike a chord with every demographic group.
In their words, “[The Project] seems to be either too outdated and annoying for modern online audiences or too simplistic and grating for traditional TV viewers of an older demographic.
And a look at The Project’s performance over the past week backs up the claim.

As a devoted follower, I must admit that our popular evening news program didn’t make it into the top ten most-viewed shows, but on Tuesdays, we saw a significant increase in viewership with a total of 945,000 people tuning in.
Its worst was Friday’s episode which attracted just 626,000 viewers.
Instead of this statement, consider using: “Our project stands out significantly compared to our rivals, Seven and Nine News, as they consistently draw over 2 million viewers each evening at 6 pm during the past week.
In March, as Daily Mail Australia previously mentioned, executives at Network Ten were contemplating a reevaluation of the show, The Project.
There were rumors circulating at Ten about their intention to debut a challenging news magazine program aimed at competing with established shows such as 60 Minutes (Nine), Spotlight (Seven), and Four Corners (ABC).
According to the report, a group of top-notch producers, known as the ‘investigative unit,’ are being brought together at this time to lead the development of the upcoming television show.
It was suggested that Dan Sutton from Channel Ten might take on the role of the executive producer for the show, while prospective reporters are undergoing auditions.
An official from Network Ten announced the formation of an investigation team to Daily Mail Australia.

The spokesperson stated that because our news brand, 10 News, has persistently thrived and achieved success, we are allocating resources towards establishing a dedicated investigative team called 10 News Investigations. This team will focus on in-depth investigative reports, which will be featured across all our media outlets.
Regarding the talk show hosted by Sarah Harris, the representative clarified that they are not planning any adjustments or modifications to the show’s format, known as “The Project.
In July last year, a representative from Network 10 assured everyone that the highly-rated show wouldn’t be leaving us anytime soon.
They informed Daily Mail Australia that the Project continues to be a significant component in our content offerings, and you can count on its continued presence.
The panel show has also undergone an audience decline ever since changing up its format.
The issues with ratings correspond with increasing scrutiny over The Project’s perceived left-leaning slant and the departures of prominent anchors like Carrie Bickmore, Peter Helliar, and Lisa Wilkinson, among others.
I was thrilled to return to the show in 2023, as part of an exciting new lineup that includes Sarah Harris, Sam Taunton, Michael Hing, and our longstanding anchor, Waleed Aly.
In contrast, it was confirmed in January that Michael Hing, a 39-year-old comedian, was no longer going to be on the show. He had initially joined the series in 2023 as a co-panelist.

In January, it was also disclosed that they would start posting full episodes of The Project on YouTube.
The producers announced a significant update via a post on their social media platforms, also providing a link to the specific YouTube channel for the show.
The well-established news discussion show frequently shares clips and segments from the program on various social media platforms, such as X and Instagram, earning significant attention online.
Following the unexpected comeback of beloved ex-celebrity Carrie Bickmore on The Project, this occurred on the previous Tuesday.
The former Channel Ten show host, who left in 2022, came back to her familiar territory for a noble purpose.
44-year-old attended the event to mark the fourth anniversary of her charity organization, Carrie’s Beanies 4 Brain Cancer. Over the past four years, this foundation has accumulated an impressive sum of $24 million to support cancer research efforts.
It just so happened that Carrie rejoined the panel on the same day as the Project recorded its peak viewership for the week, which reached 945,000 viewers.
