Channel 10 star Liz Cantor reveals shock health scare just weeks before her mother was diagnosed with cancer
As a lifestyle expert with extensive experience in navigating the complexities of both personal and professional lives, I can empathize deeply with Liz Cantor’s heart-wrenching story. Her bravery in sharing her family’s ordeal serves as a powerful reminder of the importance of open communication, especially during challenging times.
Liz Cantor, reporting for Channel 10 News First Queensland, shared that she experienced a harrowing health ordeal just weeks prior to discovering her mother’s cancer diagnosis.
41-year-old mom of three shared that their family’s troubles started when she found a lump in her breast during a shower.
Following a sequence of examinations, the outcomes showed no issues. However, her momentary peace was shattered when she got the distressing update regarding her mother Becky, within just a month’s time.
In her recent interview with the Gold Coast Bulletin on Saturday, Liz expressed that certain life moments leave an indelible impression and can never be forgotten.
She continued: ‘I was just pulling into the driveway at home from a 10 News weather cross and my phone rang and it was Mum and Dad together telling me she had cancer.
I was astonished to hear this. Despite being 70 years old, she’s passionate about running and has taken part in half-marathons. She does so to ensure her fitness and prolong her life to spend more quality time with her grandchildren.
Liz disclosed that her mother, who was originally diagnosed with pancreatitis (inflammation of the pancreas), now has a more severe form of pancreatic cancer, which is advanced.
A doctor, who is a family member, offered a second assessment, and it was she who uncovered the real health status of Rebecca.
Liz added that whatever therapy that Becky undergoes will be life-extending and not curative.
The longtime TV personality, who’s also hosting Coast to Coast and Weekender on Channel Seven, shared that her mother is currently receiving chemotherapy treatments.
Liz expressed a desire to discuss her mother’s situation openly, as she wanted to inspire others to actively seek out more information when confronting significant issues.
Still, Liz said she was hesitant to go public with her family ordeal.
She also expressed some reservation, as there seems to be a lot of criticism currently, and she recognizes that for someone else, this situation might not appear as problematic.
For me, it’s been like a living nightmare, and this isn’t just any cancer diagnosis – it’s about my mother, and it feels as if my heart is breaking into pieces. Mothers hold a significant role.
As a devoted follower, I’d like to share that my recent fright was, fortunately, correctly identified as Pseudoangiomatous Stromal Hyperplasia (PASH). Despite its tumor-like appearance, it’s not cancerous.
It can have the appearance of a tumour, and it can be caused by trauma.
She later took to Instagram to share the GCB article and added a message to the post.
In my holiday tales, Mum might appear somewhat altered, but I trust this clears up any doubts. For those who’ve been along on this journey for some time, you’d know she plays a significant role in our lives, particularly when it comes to the grandchildren.
Liz has three kids with her spouse Ryan Lynsaught – boys Kit, aged 7, Fin, aged 6, and their little girl Sky who is two years old.
It comes after Liz scored a unique deal with the Seven and 10 networks earlier this year.
Following the move to Channel Ten’s 10 News First in August, it was decided by management from both channels that she would be allowed to continue her hosting roles for lifestyle shows across various regions (Coast to coast) and the Weekender program on Seven.
In September, Liz shared with the Gold Coast Bulletin that Ten quickly agreed to her proposal initially. However, when she asked Seven if it was possible to manage 10 News, Creek to Coast, and Weekender simultaneously, she was informed that such a combination simply wasn’t an option.
When I inquired about the rationale behind it, no one seemed to have an answer. Since then, I continued probing until they responded with, “Let’s try to find something out.
Liz mentioned that following numerous discussions, they eventually arrived at a deal that pleased everyone, allowing her to carry on hosting her lifestyle shows even after switching to 10 News.
She mentioned that the agreement proved advantageous for both Seven and Ten, and expressed her hope that similar agreements might be established among other presenters in the future, ultimately benefiting all leading broadcasting networks.
I appreciate the forward-thinking attitude and open-mindedness of both networks. Now, it’s not about who is Seven, Nine, or Ten, but rather that all free-to-air television channels should collaborate to retain their audience.
I take pride in being an early adopter, collaborating across both networks. Here’s hoping I’m not the only one!
Last month, resigned Seven star Liz Cantor confirmed a huge ‘plot twist’ in her big move from the channel to its rival Network 10.
The bubbly presenter confirmed she is quitting 7News after 17 years with the embattled channel and is moving to Network 10.
As your trusted lifestyle guide, I’m excited to share that I’m currently co-hosting the 10 News First Queensland bulletin, broadcasting live from Brisbane. I’m joined by my esteemed colleague, Sharyn Ghidella, a seasoned reporter who previously worked with Seven Network. Unfortunately, recent changes within the network led to her departure last month, but we are now united in bringing you the latest news and updates.
