Chandler Riggs thinks Arcane is a better show than The Walking Dead

As a fan who has followed Chandler Riggs’ career since his days as Carl Grimes on The Walking Dead, I find it refreshing to see him express his genuine appreciation for other shows that he enjoys. While The Walking Dead will always hold a special place in my heart and I understand the attachment fans have towards it, I can relate to Chandler’s sentiment about being unable to enjoy one’s own show as casually as a regular viewer would.

Chandler Riggs gained recognition primarily due to his portrayal of Carl Grimes on The Walking Dead. Over the course of eight seasons from 2010 to 2018, he appeared in a total of 78 episodes. During this period, he was honored with the Saturn Award for ‘Outstanding Performance by a Younger Actor in a Television Series.’

As a devoted fan of The Walking Dead, I must admit that Riggs’ exit from the series didn’t sit well with me. Many other fans felt the same way, especially when they decided to write off Carl – a character who plays a crucial role in the comic book ending. It seemed like the show was veering away from its source material in that particular aspect.

After portraying Carl Grimes in The Walking Dead, Riggs hasn’t had many screen appearances recently. One noteworthy exception is The Spider, a fan film based on Spider-Man where he takes on the role of Peter Parker. He has also ventured into voice acting, voicing Superman in Justice League x RWBY: Super Heroes & Huntsmen. Additionally, he made a brief appearance in the final episode of The Walking Dead. Nowadays, you can find him streaming games on his Twitch channel.

Regarding Andrew Lincoln, who played Rick Grimes on The Walking Dead for many years, it’s important to note that his fondness for the show doesn’t stem from his role in it. This is because after watching season 2 of the Netflix animated series Arcane (based on League of Legends), he expressed on social media that it was “hands-down” the best show he had ever seen, regardless of whether it was live-action or animated.

His comment was met with stark reminders from The Walking Dead fans telling him to remember the show. “Clearly you haven’t seen The Walking Dead,” one user replied, while another quipped, “Bro hasn’t seen his own show.”

It seems entirely reasonable for Riggs to make these comments. He isn’t disparaging “The Walking Dead” in any way. In fact, I can picture that it might be challenging for actors to appreciate their own show as much as casual viewers do. Furthermore, it’s self-evident that “Arcane” deserves all the acclaim it receives; it’s simply outstanding. Both seasons are currently available for streaming on Netflix.
