Chadwick Boseman’s widow reveals the actor’s creative philosophy five years after his death

Chadwick Boseman’s wife spoke at his Hollywood Walk of Fame star ceremony on Thursday, revealing what drove his talent and success as an actor.

Simone Ledward Boseman, his wife who he married privately before he passed away on August 28, 2020, shared during the event that the actor, known for roles in “42” and “The Avengers,” was like a spiritual guide, strengthened by the love and support of his family and friends who helped him stay rooted in his beliefs.

Taylor Simone Ledward, Chadwick Boseman’s wife before his passing in 2020, will share his $2.3 million estate with his parents.

In a speech following remarks from Viola Davis and Ryan Coogler, she shared that Chad was an incredibly generous person. She said he had a huge heart and gave a piece of himself to everyone he met, yet still had so much love and kindness left to offer the world.

She believes meaningful coincidences happen too frequently to be chance occurrences—like her husband’s star being number 2828 on the Hollywood Walk of Fame—and these moments make her feel he’s still guiding her, even after his passing.

Ledward Boseman shared, “You lived with integrity and always told the truth. You were as intelligent as you were lovely, and as brave as you were gentle. We love you, miss you dearly, and are grateful for everything.”

Then, she read excerpts from her husband’s guide, called “Instructions for Creative Work.”

She quoted, “Clearly write down your goals and dreams.” Then she advised, “Keep those written ideas safe in your notebook and locked away until the right moment arrives.”

Hold onto the thoughts and inspirations God gives you, and allow them to develop within you. Let His message grow until the right moment to share it with others. Don’t speak it prematurely; wait for God’s timing.

Viola Davis recently shared heartfelt praise for her late ‘Ma Rainey’s Black Bottom’ co-star, Chadwick Boseman, five years after his passing, as he posthumously received a star on the Hollywood Walk of Fame.

I’ve learned that keeping the vision close is absolutely crucial – it’s like building a strong fortress around the project. Sharing it too soon, before the time is right, can actually destroy progress and create obstacles. It’s best to protect the idea until it’s ready to be unveiled.

“Forget the self that entered the process and be made into a new creature through the work.”

To honor the late actor, she invited his brothers, Kevin and Derrick Boseman, to join her on the red carpet, where they were greeted by Davis and director Ryan Coogler.

You can find the star on Hollywood Boulevard at 6904, right in front of the Hollywoodland Experience store. It’s in the movies section of the Walk of Fame.
