In the conclusion of “Mafia: The Old Country”, the character Enzo Favara reached his most exposed state as he was overcome by envy. This 2025 action-adventure game marked the fourth installment in the “Mafia” video game series, transporting players to Sicily during the 1900s. The narrative revolves around a man called Enzo Favara, who is nicknamed a “carusu”, and finds himself enmeshed in the treacherous web of the Torrisi crime family because of his affection for Isabella Torrisi, the mafia boss’ daughter.
In “Mafia: The Old Country,” Enzo’s deep affection for Isabella forms the core of the narrative. However, their story takes a dramatic shift when Isabella confesses that she is carrying Enzo’s baby. Towards the end of the book, Enzo and Isabella, driven by desperation to flee the mafia family and the crime-ridden country, make a hasty, yet evident decision. This choice leads to an emotional conclusion marked by betrayal.
Under the guidance of director Alex Cox and distributed by 2K, the game titled “Mafia: The Old Country” was launched as a third-person action-adventure title on August 8, 2025, for platforms including PlayStation 5, Windows, and Xbox Series X/S.
Why Did Cesare Kill Enzo In Mafia: The Old Country?

The conclusion of “Mafia: The Old Country” featured numerous unexpected developments, starting with Enzo’s daring scheme to leave America together with Isabella. Unfortunately, Don Torrisi’s loyal followers managed to sabotage their escape. During the ensuing turmoil, there was a significant character who was close to Enzo and whom he believed to be an ally: Cesare Massaro, the nephew of the Don.
Prior to their decision to leave America, Enzo and Cesare had been inseparable comrades, embarking on missions side by side for the Torrisi clan. They later protected the Torrisi family’s counterfeiting business and ultimately eliminated L’Ombra, who was Enzo’s previous abusive employer.

Regrettably, I found myself standing against my long-time comrade, Cesare, when I learned he was attempting to thwart my escape with Isabella, just as Mount Etna exploded. Our friendship crumbled into a deadly knife fight, where I emerged victorious over my former ally. Yet, in the aftermath of our battle, I chose mercy and spared him, showing that our alliance had held significant value for me.
A fierce showdown erupted between Enzo and Don Torrisi, resulting in a violent clash. In the end, it was Enzo who took Don’s life, tragically claiming that of Isabella’s father. On his deathbed, Don taunted Enzo, saying “‘You could have had everything’“, to which Enzo retorted, “‘I already have enough.’
During the struggle, Don was defeated, but later, Cesare unexpectedly and brutally murdered Enzo, a move that was shocking given Enzo’s previous decision to spare his life. Beyond seeking revenge for his deceased uncle, Cesare acted out of jealousy towards Enzo, convinced that Enzo was surpassing him in the climb for power within the mafia, which ultimately led to the murder.
The tragic aspect of Cesare’s actions lies in the fact that he deceitfully turned against Enzo immediately following their alliance. While Cesare led Enzo to believe they were still friends, his words, “‘Just you and me. Like you said. I’m sorry.’” signaled a treacherous shift in their relationship.
There Were Already Signs That Cesare Was Jealous of Enzo – & It’s Cruel

It appeared that saving Cesare would lead to Enzo’s downfall, solidifying him as a tragic hero due to his character traits. However, it’s important to note that Cesare was never a virtuous individual from the beginning. His jealousy and ambition, particularly his desire to ascend in the crime family, were destructive forces within him.
As a passionate cinephile, I found myself growing resentful towards Enzo, as it seemed that Don Torrisi regarded him as an integral family member more than he did me. This simmering animosity gradually consumed my mind, metamorphosing me into the ruthless, power-hungry antagonist who ultimately ended up taking Enzo’s life on screen.
It’s regrettable that the situation concluded with Enzo’s demise, as Cesare had no reason to take his life since Enzo was planning to depart anyhow. However, Cesare’s perspective differed significantly, as his jealousy clouded his judgement.
In summary, belonging to a criminal underworld like a mafia often means that betrayal is frequent and can result in coercion or a sad, untimely end.
Life within a mafia, riddled with crime, frequently involves being betrayed, which may lead to either being compelled to act against one’s will or meeting an unfortunate demise.
