Celine Dion is back: Pop icon, 58, announces stage comeback amid Stiff Person Syndrome battle

As a huge Celine Dion fan, I was absolutely thrilled – and honestly, a little emotional – to hear she’s finally coming back to the stage! It’s been so tough seeing her struggle with Stiff Person Syndrome, and knowing she’s determined to perform again is incredibly inspiring.

The 58-year-old pop star announced on Instagram that she’ll be performing ten shows at the Paris La Défense Arena, which holds 40,000 people, in September and October.

Stiff Person Syndrome is a very rare condition that affects the nervous system, causing muscles to become rigid and experience painful spasms. These spasms can fluctuate and become more severe over time, and singer Celine Dion has spoken about how it has impacted her ability to sing.

Making the announcement on her birthday, she branded her comeback ‘the best gift of my life.’

In a video, she shared her anticipation, saying she felt good, strong, and excited about what’s ahead, though she admitted to being a little nervous as well.

I’m feeling really good and taking care of my health. I’ve even started singing and dancing again!

I need to share something important with you. Throughout the past few years, each and every day, I’ve truly felt your prayers, support, kindness, and love.

‘I am grateful to all of you. I can’t wait to see you again.”

Last year, Dion posted a heartwarming Thanksgiving message on Instagram, giving her fans a rare glimpse into her life.

Despite her ongoing struggle with Stiff Person Syndrome, Celine Dion appears happy and healthy. She expressed gratitude for her family and encouraged everyone to slow down and appreciate what they have.

Looking directly at the camera, she shared a heartfelt message: ‘Hello everyone. Let today be a reminder to pause, breathe deeply, and appreciate the good things in our lives.’

It’s incredibly meaningful to connect with loved ones, whether you’re together in person, talking on the phone, or simply thinking of them.

‘I’m so thankful to my family and our moments together that mean the world to me.

Wishing you a Thanksgiving full of happiness, peace, and thankfulness for all of life’s blessings, big and small.

‘Happy thanksgiving, from me and my family… to you and yours.’

Along with the photo, she wished everyone a happy and peaceful Thanksgiving, hoping their day would be full of love, thankfulness, and quality time with loved ones. She signed it, ‘Celine xx…’

Celine Dion was deeply saddened when her husband, René Angélil, passed away in 2016 after battling throat cancer. The couple shared three children together.

Celine Dion first shared in 2022 that she has Stiff Person Syndrome, which caused her to cancel the rest of her tour.

In a video shared on Instagram, the singer explained that painful spasms were impacting all parts of her daily life.

This sometimes makes walking difficult and affects my ability to sing as usual.

I’m working closely with my sports medicine therapist each day to regain my strength and get back to playing, but it’s definitely been a challenging process.

“Singing is simply everything to me,” the mother of three explained. “It’s all I’ve ever done, and it’s my greatest passion.”

Last May, Celine shared a positive health update in an interview with Vogue, saying she was feeling happy again. This followed a heartfelt message she shared during the Eurovision semi-finals.

It’s been really difficult for me, but I feel a huge weight lifted now that I can finally concentrate on what’s actually happening. It feels amazing.

Last year, during an interview on Today, the performer shared that she believes in her own strength and courage, and is determined not to let her condition dictate how she lives her life.

I’m stepping on stage because I’ve prepared and I’m confident in my voice. I’m ready to sing and hit every note.

Celine Dion, who shared her battle with a serious illness in her documentary I Am: Celine Dion, delivered a powerful and emotional performance at the 2024 Paris Olympics opening ceremony, singing Edith Piaf’s classic song, “L’Hymne à L’Amour.”
