As someone who’s followed health and lifestyle choices for years, I was really moved by Ruth Codd’s story. She’s bravely shared that she made the difficult decision to have a second leg amputation. This came after years of relying on crutches, which sadly led to the destruction of the joints in her feet and ultimately the removal of all her toes. It’s a powerful example of prioritizing quality of life and making tough choices for long-term well-being.
The 29-year-old actress had her first leg amputated six years ago. She suffered a painful football injury that didn’t heal properly, leading to the amputation.
Ruth announced on Wednesday that she had a second leg amputated below the knee. She shared a TikTok video showing herself in a wheelchair at her parents’ home as she recovers.
As a lifestyle expert, I’ve been following this story closely. The actress recently shared why she underwent another surgery, and it really resonated with me. She explained it was all about improving her overall quality of life. You see, she had her toes removed back in 2021 – a result of years of relying on crutches, which took a real toll on her feet. This new procedure is simply a continuation of her journey to find more comfort and ease in her daily life.
The actress from The Midnight Club revealed doctors had told her there was no hope of improvement for her foot, which has made working and performing much harder.
She explained that she used crutches for nearly eight years, and because of how she had to walk with them – always balancing on her toes – the joints in her feet were completely worn out by the end of that time.

It’s too late to fix the situation; the problem has progressed too far.
I’ve had all my toes amputated, so my foot now looks a bit like a small hamburger.
During an interview with Grace Neutral on ‘Under The Skin,’ she explained that her decision stemmed from her quality of life. She felt it wouldn’t improve and could only potentially be prevented from declining further, especially considering the numerous health issues she’d faced in the past year.
Honestly, it hasn’t stopped me, not really. But it’s definitely made things harder, especially at work. It’s frustrating because I dealt with this once before, and I truly believe that with both of my prosthetics, I’m going to be able to overcome anything. I’m so ready to just crush it, you know? I can’t wait to show everyone what I’m capable of!
Ruth explained that her leg needs about a month to heal before she can get a prosthetic. She’s glad to be working with the same surgeon who amputated her first leg six years ago.
She explained that recovering from an amputation usually involves a three or four-day hospital stay, just long enough for doctors to manage the pain, which was her experience recently.
Honestly, the nerve block didn’t do much for me last time. I woke up in a lot of pain, but thankfully the medical team got it sorted out pretty quickly. Because of that, I was actually able to go home after just three or four days, which was a huge relief!
‘They give you a month or a month and a half for the residual limb to heal.’

Ruth explained that the most difficult part of her recovery would be the month she’d be unable to use a prosthetic. She’d experienced this before, and it meant being mostly bedridden and unable to do much at all.
You know, coming home from the hospital, people expected a huge adjustment, but honestly, it wasn’t as difficult as I thought it would be. I realize everyone’s experience is different, but for me, I think my surgeon did a fantastic job, and that made all the difference. Recovery felt surprisingly smooth, and I’m so grateful for that.
Ruth shared an update with her TikTok followers on Wednesday, revealing she had a second leg amputated below the knee. She delivered the news with her signature funny and lighthearted style.
Speaking to her followers from home, she began, ‘Hey everyone, I’ve got some updates – some good, and some not so good.’
It’s funny how things come full circle – I’m back to making TikToks in my childhood home! The downside is, I can’t film in the room with the pretty blue floral wallpaper anymore because it’s now upstairs and not easily accessible.
I recently had my second leg amputated below the knee, which means I can’t currently use those services. It’s a lot to process for everyone.
Ruth didn’t say why she had the surgery, but she proudly showed off her new wheelchair, which she playfully calls ‘Fat Tony’.
She playfully showed off her car, jokingly calling it ‘Fat Tony.’ She admitted it wasn’t very fast, especially when going uphill.
While in the caption, she quipped: ‘No legs who dis? #paralympics2026’.
Oh my gosh, the love for her was just pouring in! Everyone was sending the sweetest messages, and she was so overwhelmed she actually tweeted, ‘Guys, please stop being so nice to me, it’s starting to freak me out!’ It was the cutest thing ever, even though she was pretending it was weird. I just can’t get over how amazing she is!
Many people found it amusing that a TikTok video mistakenly captioned Ruth saying she’d had a ‘below-knee amputation’ as if she’d said ‘bologna amputation’.
Responding with their usual humor, they joked about the situation, saying things like ‘Sorry to hear about your bologna trouble,’ ‘I can’t help but laugh at the idea of losing a bologna,’ and ‘Honestly, I never really liked bologna anyway.’
People were playfully suggesting they wanted another season of Midnight Club, but joked that a request to see a specific actor again was going too far.
Many people online playfully suggested that Jonathan Ross, her rival from the show Celebrity Traitors, was behind it.
Ruth was a contestant on the first season of the popular show earlier this year, but she was eliminated – as one of the ‘murdered’ players by the Traitors – during the fourth episode.
After correctly revealing Jonathan as the traitor on the show, she was eliminated by the host and his fellow panelists, Alan Carr and Cat Burns.
One fan jokingly asked if Jonathan Ross was to blame, suggesting the injury happened because a promised partnership was suddenly taken away, leaving the ‘leg’ traumatized.
When someone playfully asked Ruth which Paralympic event she’d be competing in so they could watch, she jokingly replied, ‘rhythmic gymnastics’.

Rahul Kohli, who also stars in ‘The Fall of the House of Usher’ with Kate Siegel, jokingly called her out, writing ‘Excuses, excuses.’ Siegel responded by asking, ‘How do I block someone twice?’
Ruth shared that her nerve pain increased over time, which also negatively impacted her mental health, because her life became focused on trying to recover from her leg injury.
She explained to the Irish Examiner that she felt hopeless for a long time, believing things wouldn’t improve. She was caught in a negative thought pattern and frustrated with her life.
Following several unsuccessful surgeries, she chose to have her right leg amputated. She explained that the past eight years had been consumed by constant hospital visits and procedures.
Deciding to have the amputation was a turning point for me. It brought a sense of relief and allowed me to move forward with my life.
Ruth became well-known after starting to share videos on TikTok during the COVID-19 pandemic. Her content included both funny skits and videos that helped raise awareness about disabilities.
The casting directors for Netflix’s The Midnight Club found her through the platform and, despite having no prior acting experience, chose her to play the role of Anya.
She later played Juno Usher in the 2023 Netflix horror series, The Fall of the House of Usher, which received very positive reviews.
