Celebrity chef Curtis Stone defends his stint on MasterChef Australia after copping backlash for being ‘too harsh’
As a seasoned follower of MasterChef Australia, I have to say that my initial impression of Curtis Stone was not what I expected. Having grown up watching him cook exquisite dishes on TV and reading about his successful restaurant ventures, I admired him for his culinary prowess and entrepreneurial spirit. However, this season, he seemed a bit too harsh and unpleasant to the contestants, which left me feeling quite disheartened.
Famous cook, Curtis Stone, responded to criticism by defending his appearance as a temporary judge on MasterChef Australia.
This season, the restaurant owner aged 48 received criticism from viewers due to being perceived as overly stern and unfriendly towards the contestants.
Instead, Curtis has since justified his methods and explained that his firm approach aimed to bring out the best in the contestants by encouraging them to display their abilities.
Curtis explained to Yahoo Lifestyle how his judging approach evolved as they approached the finale, emphasizing that the contestants valued his candid feedback, which often came across as challenging.
He often considers himself like a culinary guide, emphasizing the importance of being a supportive mentor and gauging one’s team members’ abilities. It involves understanding their current skill level and knowing when and how hard to challenge them.
‘And last season, I had a group of guys that were really wanting it, really wanting it a lot.
“I handed it over, encouraged them, and challenged them to go the extra mile. In hindsight, I believe they appreciated my efforts greatly, and the whole experience turned out to be incredibly enjoyable.
In my role as a lifestyle expert, I’d like to weigh in on the recent discussions surrounding Curtis and his approach during the 2024 season of MasterChef. After observing fan reactions, it seems some felt his feedback style was less than ideal. As a firm believer in constructive criticism, I understand both sides of the argument – the importance of honesty in critique, balanced with empathy and tact to ensure growth without causing unnecessary distress.

One viewer even compared the Australian foodie to the notoriously hot-tempered celebrity chef Gordon Ramsay.
In the span of just a week, Curtis found himself right in the thick of things during two significant tests on back-to-back episodes, and viewers expressed their disapproval over his approach to judging as the representative for Coles food.
…”One displeased viewer referred to Curtis Stone as somewhat unsavory,” was written on X, which used to be called Twitter.
Another fan agreed with a cheeky meme featuring actress Jodie Foster mouthing the word ‘true’.
Critics drew unfavorable analogies between Curtis, a contestant on the Australian version of MasterChef, and Jamie Oliver, another former judge on the same show.
‘Curtis is a lot more harsh than Jamie was…,’ one viewer said.
‘Somehow I don’t like this “tough love” Curtis Stone,’ added another to the thread.
‘At least Jamie Oliver helps and answers questions.’
‘Maybe Curtis is trying to edge into Gordon Ramsay’s territory,’ said one person.
Additionally, another spectator subtly criticized Curtis’ looks, implying that he was participating in the show merely due to business commitments.

It seems likely that Curtis is obligated to complete this task according to his agreement with Coles, and he doesn’t appear to be enjoying himself in the least.
Despite some backlash, other viewers were excited to see Curtis on the show.
‘Star to Curtis!!!’ one said while another commented: ‘Fabulous!!!! excellent!!! fantastic!!!’
As a seasoned cooking enthusiast, I first stepped into the spotlight on MasterChef Australia All-Stars back in 2012, and since then, I’ve been a regular contestant on this esteemed culinary competition.
