Celebrity chef Colin Fassnidge reveals surprising reason his daughters want him to quit My Kitchen Rules

As a dedicated follower of Colin Fassnidge’s journey, I find his story both heartwarming and inspiring. The man has built a successful career in the culinary world, yet he remains grounded as a loving father to his two teenage daughters. It’s amusing to see how even the most famous among us can be reduced to being “cringe” in their children’s eyes!

According to Colin Fassnidge, his teenage daughters have shared an unexpected motivation for him to step down from his hosting role on My Kitchen Rules.

The renowned chef, aged 51, confessed that his daughters, Lily (14) and Maeve (13), have urged him to retreat from the spotlight due to finding him too awkward and uncomfortable to watch.

In an interview with TV Week, he acknowledged that they are of an age where, it seems, I am referred to as “outdated” or “unfashionable.”

‘They don’t want to see their dad on TV – they want me to quit.’

Nevertheless, the straightforward food enthusiast stated that their pleas have gone unheeded, subtly hinting at their successful television career providing them with a luxurious lifestyle.

Colin remarked, “I often suggest they glance upwards,” he explained. “To which they respond, ‘The ceiling?’ I confirm, ‘Indeed, it’s the performance itself that does so.'”

Colin shares his daughters Lily and Maeve with his wife Jane Hyland, who he married in 2006.

Though My Kitchen Rules provides the family with their main income source, Colin has disclosed that there’s a more troubling aspect to the limelight in reality TV shows.

On the Mental As Anyone podcast in July, Colin shared how online trolls had negatively affected him, particularly when they made vile remarks about his family that caused him to become extremely upset.

The Irish writer expressed his readiness to endure online hostility, yet emphasized that going after his spouse and daughters surpassed acceptable boundaries.

“Colin stated, ‘People have threatened to harm my children, assault my wife, and burn down our home. These threats are due to their dislike of your television program.'”

…”Well, it’s surprising to me. They seem to believe they can say anything they wish. I can handle criticisms directed at me, but when it escalates beyond that, that’s when I become agitated.”

Back in 2015, I found myself compelled to reach out to the New South Wales Police due to a chilling tweet that had somehow reached my daughters.

In simpler terms, Colin shared with news.com.au that there was someone who implied he’d watch his children indirectly, which raised concerns for him. He then approached the police to inquire what actions they would take regarding this suspicious situation.

The police officer stated that he hadn’t heard the suspect mention any intention of harassing or causing harm, and unfortunately, they had no grounds for action.

After asking for the officer’s name, Colin felt that only then did he receive a more significant response or action regarding his case.

In response to some unfavorable opinions about his performance on MKR, he mentioned that this didn’t apply to his family or fellow contestants on the show.

He stated, “Feel free to criticize my cooking skills or dislike my restaurant quality or even comment on my hairstyle, but please refrain from involving my children and the contestants in your criticism.”
