Celebrity Big Brother Star Ian ‘H’ Watkins Reveals Devastating Mental Health Impact After Show
Previously known contestant of Celebrity Big Brother, Ian ‘H’ Watkins, recently disclosed the significant effect the program had on his well-being. He expressed concern that there were no provisions or support (aftercare) provided to celebrities after they left the house.
48-year-old former “X Factor” contestant from The Steps band, who made it to the finals in 2007, has shared that he developed feelings of paranoia following his elimination and was convinced that people were secretly observing him even behind mirrors well after the show’s conclusion.
During an interview with The Sun, he shared his thoughts, stating, “I’ve noticed that the aftercare nowadays seems to be improved significantly. This aspect can undeniably impact one’s mental wellbeing.
‘Since during the night, others were observing you. Back then, it was possible to see people asleep for a full day.’
After stepping out, it felt preposterous – I knew it wasn’t logical – yet for weeks afterward, my mind persistently played tricks on me, convinced that eyes were following me from the reflections of mirrors, as if they had become sentient spectators in my life.
The celebrity informed the media outlet that no post-show support or care was offered to him following his performance, leaving him to manage on his own.

Currently, he envisions that medical professionals such as doctors and psychologists are readily available to assist any celebrities when needed.
In a well-known television show, Ian appeared alongside Jade Goody and Shilpa Shetty, sparking a major controversy over racism and bullying.
Ian holds a different viewpoint, expressing that what happened before may not occur now. He pointed out that “it can be a bit of a poisoned chalice” and emphasized how the “circumstances have evolved.
The interview takes place following Ian disclosing in March that he was still struggling with a severe virus he contracted some time back. He spoke about his health concerns and hinted at a major career shift during the conversation.
Back then, the performer revealed that he’d suffered a significant loss of his singing range due to being unwell for quite some time, which happened during the premiere of Steps The Musical in Birmingham.
Speaking with Heat Magazine, Ian shared that since the launch of Steps The Musical in Birmingham, he has yet to fully recover from a severe illness he contracted during that time.
If someone had asked me to perform a show, I wouldn’t have been able to do it because a significant part of my resources or capabilities has just become unavailable. It left me quite shocked and unable to function for a while.
I’ve got some exciting news for fans of this iconic band! They’ve subtly suggested that they have something special planned to celebrate their 30th anniversary, which is just around the corner. As a lifestyle expert, I can’t wait to see what they’ve got up their sleeves!

In that very same chat, I couldn’t help but get all giddy when Ian dropped a bombshell about embarking on a fresh journey in life – stepping into the role of an art teacher!
I’m volunteering at our neighborhood school to teach art to children. It’s great that I can handle the school drop-off, create artwork, and pick up odd jobs whenever I want.
As a die-hard admirer, I can’t help but share that the charismatic lead vocalist from the ’90s pop sensation has primarily devoted his time to honing his skills as a professional artist. His extraordinary paintings frequently fetch astronomical sums in the region of thousands of pounds!
1997 saw the rise of Steps to the top of the music charts following their formation. Their massive hits, including Tragedy, 5, 6, 7, 8, and Deeper Shade Of Blue, were among the most popular tunes at the time.
After enjoying numerous number one hits, the band decided to go their separate ways in 2001. Years later, Ian found himself drawn back to painting, ultimately becoming a professional artist.
Earlier today, Ian posted an Instgram video for his followers, offering a peek into his third art showcase this year.
In the video, he expressed a heartfelt sentiment concerning his choice to be an artist, displaying each of his pieces with obvious pride on the walls.
I’ve been absolutely thrilled to announce that my third art exhibition of the year is now open at the prestigious Cloud Gallery Fine Art! I’m simply floored by this incredible opportunity!

I’m still a bit swamped from the influx of people, as this type of event is unlike anything I’ve experienced before. Typically, I perform with four bandmates on stage instead of being in the audience.
In contrast, an art exhibition offers a intimate, unmasked experience. There’s no place to conceal oneself. Engaging in conversations about my creative journey and the motivation behind my paintings is something I genuinely enjoy, as it fosters a deep connection with others.
He mentioned: “I’ll have my work showcased at the Cloud Gallery in Chichester. So, if you happen to be there, drop by to meet Gavin and his outstanding team.
At age eighteen, Ian got admitted to Cardiff School of Art and Design. However, instead of starting immediately, he chose to postpone his enrollment because he yearned for a taste of the entertainment industry.
He previously told the BBC: ‘I packed up my artistic dreams in a box and put it on the top shelf.
Ian added: ‘I always knew I would open it up one day. And now’s that time.’
