Celebrity Big Brother launch show suffers huge ratings drop as housemates revealed

The ratings for the premiere episode of Celebrity Big Brother have significantly decreased, falling close to a million viewers since it started its newest season.

Last night, AJ Odudu and Will Best returned to host the premiere event, revealing the stars participating in this year’s edition on ITV – the second time the show has been aired by ITV since they acquired the broadcasting rights for the program format.

On the other hand, there’s been a substantial decrease in viewership for this year’s launch event compared to last year. Specifically, only 1.8 million viewers watched it, while the 2024 launch show attracted 2.7 million viewers according to Broadcast.

In the first installment, Mickey Rourke’s behavior towards the host, AJ Odudu, prior to entering the house has stirred up some controversy as it was deemed inappropriate by some viewers.

People swiftly expressed their worry about certain scenes on social media platforms, many advocating for ITV to take action by removing Rourke from the house.

Here’s a way I could rephrase it in the first person as a fan: “I can hardly contain my excitement as some of my favorite stars have been announced for the 2025 series! Dance Moms’ Jojo Siwa, Coronation Street’s Jack P Shepherd, Love Island’s Chris Hughes, EastEnders actor Patsy Palmer, and Drag Race’s Danny Beard will all be joining the lineup.

Completing our 2025 roster are Chesney Hawkes, Trisha Goddard, Michael Fabricant, Ella Rae Wise, Daley Thompson, Donna Preston, and Angelica Bell. (Using the phrase “completing our lineup” to convey the idea that they are the final additions to a group.)

The previous night’s installment was filled with unexpected moments as the residents were offered opportunities to accumulate points for the house by participating in hidden tasks.

Chesney Hawkes became popular by presenting himself as “The Unique One”, whereas Michael Fabricant increased the reward money by enthusiastically slapping hands with new residents and welcoming them with Austin Powers’ famous line, “Oh, what a groovy baby!

Tonight, we’ll discover whether our celebrities chose to use their earned points for a food delivery or a new washing machine.

Celebrity Big Brother airs on ITV1, ITVX, STV and STV Player on weeknights from 9pm.
