Celebrities you WON’T believe are the same age in these shocking pictures – from a fresh-faced Tom Selleck to Sean Connery as 007

Appearances can often be misleading; it’s not always straightforward to determine a person’s age, such as an actor, athlete, or musician, based solely on their TV appearances.

Throughout the years, it has often left people puzzled when they discover the unexpected ages of their beloved celebrities, yet it’s even more astonishing to notice how dramatically different A-list personalities can look at the exact same age.

A few weeks back, many were taken aback when they saw the side-by-side comparison of Sean Connery, the legendary Bond actor, and the youthful Thomas Brodie-Sangster at 34 years old.

Discovered are numerous photographs of celebrities whose ages seem hard to believe, but until now, they have remained hidden.

Let’s examine some of the finest moments, ranging from youthful Tom Holland to clean-shaven Tom Selleck, shall we?

Tom Holland and Tom Selleck (29)

One actor with a striking baby-face is Zendaya’s boyfriend Tom Holland.

As a devoted admirer, I’ve had the privilege of gaining recognition for my roles as Peter Parker in Spider-Man: Homecoming and Spider-Man: Far from Home, two films that have catapulted me into the limelight at the tender age of 29.

This week, there were surprising rumors that he could be cast as James Bond, as reported by Variety, leaving many fans puzzled and confused.

A newcomer, who had a youthful charm about him, was thought to be overly cute for the part; someone compared casting Tom Holland as James Bond to producing a children’s version of the 007 series.

It’s quite remarkable how Tom manages to look like he could be a high school senior at 29, considering some established celebrities from past eras. This is according to one fan’s observation.

As a lifestyle expert, I’d like to point out an interesting observation using the example of the esteemed Tom Selleck, now 80. Before sporting his famous mustache, Tom appeared to me (and many others) to be aging more rapidly than his actual years. This demonstrates the profound impact that grooming habits and facial hair can have on our perceived age.

Before his roles as Thomas Magnum PI with curly hair or Richard Burke in Friends, Tom Selleck had already starred in numerous TV shows and films during the 1970s, clean-shaven at that time.

Although Tom Selleck was missing a beard, he still looked just as old at any age. In fact, a picture of him at 29 years old showed a ruggedness that made him appear much older than his actual age.

Wayne Rooney and Cristiano Ronaldo (38)

In their late twenties, specifically at ages 22 and 23, Rooney and Ronaldo were undeniably at the pinnacle of their abilities. They played a crucial role in guiding Manchester United to triumph in the Europe-wide competition of 2008.

But some 17 years later and the physical differences between the pair are stark.

At 40 years old, Ronaldo persistently overcomes expectations as he plays for both Portugal and the Saudi League club Al Nassr, whereas his former teammate Rooney has transitioned to charity matches since retiring from professional football in 2021.

Following a contented start to his retirement that spanned two years, the ex-England forward recently appeared in a Man United Legends team at Old Trafford last summer, showing signs of gray hair and a body shape less trim than when he was active on the field.

The following summer arrived, with Cristiano Ronaldo having scored an impressive 44 goals for his recently joined team, Al Nassr, at an age that was a year ahead of Wayne’s.

It appears that even Ronaldo recognized the distinction between himself and his former teammate as they approached their forties. In an explosive interview with Piers Morgan, he suggested that Rooney might harbor feelings of envy towards him.

When asked about Rooney’s criticism towards him upon his return to Manchester United, Ronaldo replied to Piers: “It might be jealousy. Maybe it’s because he retired in his 30s and I am still playing at a top level. I won’t say that I’m more handsome than him – but that is a fact!

And Just Like That and The Golden Girls (50s)

After the passing away of Betty White at the ripe age of 99 in 2021, conversations emerged about the ages of the actors from The Golden Girls.

Specifically, viewers found themselves taken aback when they realized the differences in age between Rose (Betty White), Blanche (Rue McClanahan), and Dorothy (Bea Arthur) from an older TV show compared to the main characters in And Just Like That, a revival of Sex and the City on HBO.

In the first season of “The Golden Girls”, although they appeared to be senior citizens, Dorothy and Rose were only 55 years old, with Blanche being noticeably younger in her early fifties.

After viewing Miranda, Charlotte, and Carrie from “And Just Like That,” many spectators found it hard to believe that these characters are supposed to be the same age as the actresses playing them, who are all in their 50s.

Audience members flocked to social media platforms to share their astonishment, posting messages such as “Re-watching an episode from Season 1 of The Golden Girls.

A fan of X posted: ‘I’m watching an episode from Season 1 of The Golden Girls, and it was recently mentioned that Rose is 55 years old. This seems strange to me since Charlotte is the same age in And Just Like That… It feels like their ages have merged.’

It’s somewhat surprising to me that the characters from Sex and the City and The Golden Girls are approximately the same age.

In the initial season of Golden Girls, the primary characters were relatively younger compared to those in the current series, Sex and The City (approximately 53 years old for Golden Girls versus around 54-55 years old for And Just Like That!). It’s fascinating how our perspective on women at that age has evolved significantly over time.

Tobey Maguire and Tommy Lee Jones (50)

It appears that Spider-Man’s creators have a preference for youthful appearances, as the initial actor chosen to embody the beloved superhero was Tobey Maguire, who landed the prestigious role in 2002 when he was just 22 years old.

During his last portrayal of Peter Parker in Spider-Man 3, Tobey Maguire was 27 years old, yet fans didn’t mind that he played a character 12 years younger due to his youthful appearance.

This year, he reached the age of 50, but his appearance betrays no signs; in fact, with just a touch of graying facial hair, the actor continues to look vibrant and youthful, as if time has barely touched him.

Contrasting with Tommy Lee Jones, who played in Men In Black and sported wrinkles and gray hair at age 50 when the movie premiered in 1997.

Or simply: Tommy Lee Jones, who was already showing signs of aging (wrinkles and grey hairs) during his role in Men In Black, which came out in 1997 when he was 50 years old.

Indeed, it’s quite common for Lee Jones to portray characters who are older than him. For instance, in the movie Men In Black, he played Agent K, who was in his sixties, and when he played Ty Cobb in the 1990s, that character was decades older than Tommy was at the time.

One fan one Reddit amusingly quipped: ‘Has Tommy Lee Jones ever not looked like a stern old guy?’

Christopher Lloyd and Brad Pitt (60)

In the initial release of Back to the Future in 1985, actor Christopher Lloyd shared screen time with Michael J. Fox. His portrayal of Dr. Emmett ‘Doc’ Brown made him a beloved character not only in the original film but also in the subsequent sequels among fans.

However, viewers often struggled to determine the Doctor’s age in the initial and subsequent films due to his wild, gray hair and visible wrinkles.

In contrast, the Back to the Future books disclosed that the character was already 65 years old during the first film, implying that a 46-year-old Christopher Lloyd portrayed a doctor who was about two decades older than himself.

After depicting the character for six films, a slightly older and balding Lloyd continued to play the role in 1999, sporting a more tamed hairstyle compared to before.

Examining Christopher at age 60 next to Brad Pitt, who reached that age point only recently, presents a striking contrast.

Reflecting on his style from the 2000s, Brad sported a freshly-trimmed haircut, making him appear ageless, barely looking more than 50 years old. He was spotted in London a fortnight ago at the premiere of his latest movie, F1: The Movie.

In this image, Tom Cruise, a renowned actor, is seen alongside another A-list celebrity, sporting a longer, browner hairstyle than what he typically sports. Both appear to be in excellent shape, and with their combined talents, there’s no question that they have many more successful films ahead of them.

Christie Brinkley and Donatella Versace (70)

She is often considered among the world’s most stunning women and has consistently appeared in lists ranking her as one of the greatest supermodels ever.

As a die-hard admirer, I can’t help but marvel at the fact that time seems to have little impact on the timeless beauty of Christie Brinkley. Even after turning 70 last year, she continues to dazzle us just as much as she always has!

After the festivities, Christie candidly discussed aging in an interview with People, sharing that she embraces her ‘lines.’

At times, as individuals grow older and push themselves too much, their appearance may take on a waxy or perhaps somewhat embalmed quality, she explained.

I’d like a touch of lived experience reflected on my face, if you catch my drift? I’m okay with acquiring some wrinkles as part of growing older. That’s how I plan to embrace the process of aging.

Another celebrity who appears to have adopted a different strategy is Donatella Versace, who recently celebrated her 70th birthday in early May.

Over the years, she has fueled speculation about plastic surgery on multiple occasions following significant transformations.

A few weeks back, Donatella graced the 2025 Met Gala with her presence, flaunting her golden hair not long after she celebrated turning 70 years old.

Dennis Waterman and John Thaw

For three consecutive years, the esteemed actors Dennis Waterman and John Thaw shared the screen on the show “The Sweeney,” portraying tough-as-nails detectives from London’s Metropolitan Police who relentlessly chased down criminals throughout the city.

In this scenario, Jack Regan, a character from The Flying Squad, was portrayed as a straight-forward, no-nonsense individual. On the other hand, Dennis Waterman delivered an endearing performance as Jack’s easygoing partner, Detective Sergeant George Carter.

It might come as a shock, but even though they look older with some gray hair, Thaw and Waterman started shooting the series back in the 70s, at the young ages of 33 and 24 respectively.

In 1978, their portrayal of the characters concluded with the release of the second spin-off film of the series, called “The Sweeney 2.” Dennis Waterman was 27 years old, while John Thaw was 36 during this production.

In October 2002, the much-loved actor John Thaw passed away due to throat cancer, around a year after his last appearance as Inspector Morse on television.

Dennis passed away aged 74 in 2022 after a two-year battle in secret with lung cancer.

Thomas Brodie-Sangster and Sir Sean Connery (34)

A few weeks back, pictures of Thomas and the late, esteemed Sir Sean from their time when they were both 34 years old became extremely popular online.

At only 13 years old, Thomas gained worldwide recognition for his role in Love Actually, and he’s since earned a reputation in the acting industry for his youthful appearance.

In the 1960s, I was fortunate enough to land the role of James Bond, a character known for his rugged handsomeness, which undoubtedly played a significant part in my casting.

Indeed, Sean’s appearance made him look much older than his actual age, which is why he portrayed Indiana Jones’s father in The Last Crusade at a time when he was twelve years older than Harrison Ford.

In June, a striking comparison between Sean Connery and Ncuti Gatwa (Brodie Sangster) at the age of 34 left fans amazed, as shared by UNILAD.

The title reads: “These two gentlemen are 34 years old in these pictures, and yes, it’s making us do a double-take as well.

On the left side: The classic coolness of a mid-century legend. On the right side: A contemporary celebrity who seems to have remained 17 years old for the past two decades.

‘Same age, completely different vibes.’

As an enthusiast, I can’t help but exclaim: In the comments section, fellow fans were astonished, expressing: ‘That depiction mirrors exactly how I envisioned individuals in their thirties during my twenties, compared to how I perceive them now in my forties!’

‘Sean Connery smoked, drunk heavily and lived life roughly, the Nanny McPhee lad did not.’

It doesn’t astonish me anymore, given that today’s standards for living are significantly improved and healthcare is far more sophisticated compared to the era when Sir Sean Connery was born. Back then, a broken arm might have required walking it off, as there were fewer medical resources available.
