Celebrating One Year of snowbreak.gg

As I read through this heartfelt message from our esteemed content creator, I couldn’t help but be reminded of my own days as a fledgling journalist, stumbling through the labyrinth of news and reviews, much like a blindfolded man trying to find his way out of a maze made of jelly.

Hello everyone! Just wanted to let you know that I’m working from a hospital right now, which is why some articles have been postponed or not yet published if you’ve noticed. However, I had planned on writing this piece eventually, so I thought I’d take advantage of the opportunity and work on parts that don’t require my computer’s full capabilities.

A year ago, I kicked off my journey as a content creator at snowbreak.gg with my first substantial post – the October 2023 tier list update. Looking back, it’s hard to believe how far I’ve come since then. I never thought someone like me would be able to make such an impact and gain the trust and respect of this massive community. Honestly, most projects I’d started in the past didn’t last much longer than a few months. But rest assured, I’m here to stay! As for my current status, I’m out of the hospital now and doing just fine. Don’t worry about me!

As snowbreak.gg turns one, let’s reminisce on the journey that led us here and peek into what lies ahead.

Of course, no birthday would be complete without a gift! This one was especially made for the event, showcasing our beloved duo – the two poster stars, and making a special appearance, Yao.

Part 1: Past

The story of how I ended up writing for snowbreak.gg might seem a little hard to believe, but I promise you it’s real.

At first, this game didn’t pique my curiosity much. Honestly, I only knew about it when my friend mentioned it under its former name “Project Snow.” Intrigued by mere curiosity, I applied for the final closed beta test session, not really thinking I’d get picked. To my surprise, however, I managed to secure a spot in the beta. Consequently, I downloaded the beta client, created an account, and logged in to give it a spin.

And you know what? It was pretty darn fun.

In the beta phase, I became utterly captivated by devising optimal team configurations to conquer Jotun Tunnel. Even after claiming all weekly rewards, I found myself continuing to play Gigalink just to see how quickly I could complete it solo. Despite repeatedly getting defeated, I consistently went back to Neural Simulation to engage in thrilling, minutes-long battles against the week’s bosses. Although the graphics were far from spectacular and account development was limited due to testing, it felt like an unexpectedly enticing blend of “Genshin Impact” and gunplay that I hadn’t even realized I desired.

I became quite engrossed in it, and eventually, I felt compelled to compile a ranking system for all the characters available during the closed beta. My past self was quite geeky; I can only imagine how eagerly he’d be knocked into a locker. The outcome was an extensive Google Document filled with my thoughts and preferences on which characters were useful and which should be avoided. Interestingly, I still maintain and update this document, so for those unwilling to examine the one provided, there is an alternative available.

Initially, I assumed that sharing my geeky ranking document with fellow beta testers would be the final chapter. I’d get to boast about creating a trendy tier list, the beta phase would end, and I’d eagerly await Snowbreak’s official launch date. However, things took an unexpected turn. Somehow, someone from a game strategy website (not this one, we’ll get there soon) stumbled upon my doc and reached out to me, proposing to publish it on their platform. Being in a position where I had little to lose, I agreed and simply asked them to credit me as the author so I could display my work to friends and say, “Check out what I accomplished!

Originally, I was quite content with my circumstances. Surprisingly, the humorous tier list I created ended up on a genuine website, not just Google Docs! This discovery provided an additional boost to keep refining the tier list when the game launched. However, I was contemplating calling it quits and enjoying the fruits of my labor. But fate had other plans; getting the tier list published on that site caught the attention of Seasun, specifically their eyeballs. Eventually, I received a message from the Snowbreak content creator program manager. They were impressed with my work and extended an exclusive invitation to join their content creator program. Typically, one would have to apply and meet certain follower counts on social media platforms before being accepted. Given my status as a random individual who wrote a funny document, I wouldn’t have met those requirements. However, life occasionally offers not lemons, but golden opportunities instead.

At roughly that moment, I decided to fully commit myself to this endeavor. Consequently, I unearthed the password to an old Twitter account and began sharing news updates, tutorials, and even one for a challenging Jotun Tunnel phase. It was quite enjoyable! However, what really stood out was my new habit of creating comprehensive event summaries. These were posted as threads on Twitter, Google Docs (later moved to Notion), eventually leading to a mini-site on Notion. And it turned out to be a stroke of luck. Once more, I caught someone’s attention, this time from my current employer who invited me to write guides and articles for their new website: snowbreak.gg.

You could say that the rest is history.

Part 2: Present

How have things been lately? I must say that the content on the site has significantly progressed since its inception. Ideally, it should have, but let’s hope for the best. Many aspects of the site have changed, such as offering more details or altering the way information is presented. For instance, I proposed the creation of a redemption codes page to my superior, who was fully supportive of the idea. At the time, there wasn’t a centralized platform to find redemption codes for the game, so it was an effortless addition with great utility. However, this feature was developed just before Seasun took a prolonged break from distributing new redemption codes after November 2023, causing some inconvenience. Fortunately, they appear to be active again now, so I’m encouraging everyone to visit the redemption codes page and see if there are any missed opportunities.

Additionally, I strongly advocated for providing a calendar or schedule on the main page so that users can easily view the timing of upcoming gacha banners and plan their weekly Neural Sim activities accordingly.

Initially, what you saw was primarily a large display of timers for various game events. It functioned well, but maintaining it was quite labor-intensive, involving manual updates for recurring events like Jotun Tunnel and removal of expired events myself. To my surprise, the first task I’d accomplish every weekly reset wasn’t even playing the game, but updating all the timers on the site instead! It wasn’t perfect, but it seemed to be the best option available at the time. That was until I stumbled upon the amazing events timeline featured on sister site wutheringwaves.gg’s homepage. To be honest, they seem to have access to all the cutting-edge website technology. I can’t help but feel a tad envious. I pleaded with my boss to incorporate something similar here, and after some technical setup and problem-solving, it replaced the timer wall.

A significant change I’ve been implementing lately is creating individual articles for each character’s review. This way, I can delve deeper into their aspects such as gameplay style, optimal loadout suggestions, strengths, and weaknesses. Earlier, I used to write all this in the character’s tier list entry and any other scheduled game update article. As a result, I was essentially writing two reviews for the same character (or maybe one and a half considering the overlap), and also had to wait until the entire article was done before publishing it.

Initially, I persisted with that structure for an extended period, but looking back, it seems rather illogical. However, this change has enabled me to publish articles more swiftly, such as the Vidya – Agave review, which was posted merely a fortnight after its release. Nonetheless, it’s important to note that this is still a small sample, and the expected articles about the characters from this update are still absent (although I hope you all appreciate the unique circumstances surrounding this particular instance).

As a dedicated fan, I can’t help but notice how review articles have evolved over time, now offering additional perks such as logistics optimization calculators. But I’m taking it a step further with the upcoming Katya and Marian articles. These won’t just be articles; they’ll be visual feasts, filled with graphic representations highlighting key aspects of each character. And here’s the best part: you’ll get a comprehensive “cheat sheet” for each character, making it effortless to gather all the essential information needed to craft your own character, all neatly packaged in an easy-to-use infographic!

Absolutely, creating all this requires time and effort. To be honest, I’m not known for speed in content production, and I don’t expect that will change anytime soon. Due to adjusting my sleep schedule to cover news before an event, I usually start events feeling a bit jet-lagged and tired, which is far from ideal. Setting aside excuses, however, I’ve always valued taking the time to produce high-quality content. This means fact-checking articles, incorporating insights from Seasun contacts when applicable, revising translations multiple times, and ensuring everything meets my own standards before publication. So, while I may not be the first to publish a news post or character review, you can count on it being worth the wait.

Part 3: Future

In essence, I’ve got plenty lined up for you. This game is filled with fascinating aspects that I intend to explore in detail, creating a series of in-depth articles about Snowbreak’s world. Stay tuned as they get published over time. Additionally, I plan to revisit and create guides for older characters, giving them standalone posts. Although most are no longer crucial to the game, they remain fun to play and offer an interesting “side quest” of sorts in less competitive game modes.

As a gamer here, I get that you’re eager for fresh content and updates, but remember, it takes time to manage everything, from creating new content to maintaining the site. It’s an ongoing process with numerous aspects requiring regular attention. However, rest assured, I’m not leaving this gaming paradise we’ve created together. So hang tight, folks! The best is yet to come.

Shoutouts And Special Thanks

As you continue perusing, allow me to present a few outstanding content creators from Snowbreak that you might find captivating. Kindly take a moment to explore their work.

Additionally, I’d like express my heartfelt gratitude to all those who have been instrumental in my journey. Without the assistance and encouragement of numerous individuals, none of this would be achievable. The saying goes that it takes a village to raise a child, and indeed, I wouldn’t be here without your collective efforts. I hope you understand what I’m trying to convey.

Above all, I’d like to express my gratitude to our leader for offering me an exceptional chance to contribute content to a genuine site rather than a fabricated one or a simple Google Document.

I’d like to express gratitude towards the individual who initially showed enthusiasm for my humble Google Docs tier list and subsequently shared it on their own platform.

I appreciate all the help from Seasun team members and my network of contacts throughout this journey. I’m excited about our potential for collaborating more in the time ahead.

I want to express my gratitude to paep3nguin for the tremendous effort put into Snowbreak during its early stages. You were instrumental in teaching me many aspects of the game. I hope this new phase of your life, wherever it may be, brings you as much joy and fulfillment as you brought to me and the Snowbreak community.

Appreciation to Scateo, Scrabble, Momo, and the entire Yggdrasil Research Team for keeping me somewhat composed amidst the chaos caused by the latest game mechanic introduced by Seasun that’s driving me up the wall.

I’d like to extend my heartfelt gratitude to L, my go-to guide through the years on everything gaming – from the intricate files to the hidden mechanics, and the wealth of insights drawn from them.

Absolutely! Many thanks to you, dear reader. All that we offer – the news, reviews, and more – wouldn’t exist without your backing. Your presence here and faith in snowbreak.gg as a reliable source is greatly appreciated. I’m honored by your trust.
