The third season of Prime Video’s The Lord of the Rings: The Rings of Power, expected in late 2026 or early 2027, might finally introduce a key character who’s been missing so far. While Galadriel (Morfydd Clark) has been central to the story in the first two seasons, many viewers have wondered about her husband, Celeborn, a famously wise and powerful elf in Middle-earth.
There are rumors online that Jamie Campbell Bower, known for his role in Stranger Things, might play Celeborn in Season 3 of The Rings of Power. Although this hasn’t been officially confirmed – and he could end up playing a different role – the news of his casting, expected in February 2025, has increased excitement for the show’s return. Fans are particularly eager to see what happens next in this large-scale fantasy series.
Galadriel’s Quest in ‘The Rings of Power,’ Explained

Prime Video
Set thousands of years before the events of The Lord of the Rings, The Rings of Power follows Galadriel’s relentless search for the Dark Lord Sauron, a quest that tragically claimed her brother Finrod’s life. She embarks on a dangerous journey to find Sauron, and the show’s writers intentionally left out her husband, Celeborn, to highlight Galadriel’s strong and independent nature.
Throughout the show, Galadriel reveals that Celeborn disappeared during the War of the Jewels and might still be alive, even though everyone believes he died in battle. While he’s gone, Galadriel transforms from a fierce warrior into the Lady of Lothlorien, and the story highlights her courage, growth, and the wisdom she gains along the way.
Wow, Season 2 ended with everything going crazy! I was on the edge of my seat watching Galadriel rally the elves for the Siege of Eregion – she really stepped up to avenge Finrod and face down this huge threat. But then… the biggest twist! It was absolutely heartbreaking to see her discover that Halbrand, the guy she was falling for, was actually Sauron in disguise. I did not see that coming!
Since the end of Season 2 in October 2024, some viewers have been disappointed by the lack of Celeborn. However, the show’s creators have suggested he might appear in Season 3. This, combined with the February 2025 announcement that Jamie Campbell Bower is joining the cast, has led fans to speculate about what’s to come.
Will Jamie Campbell Bower Play Celeborn in ‘The Rings of Power’ Season 3?

Prime Video
According to a report from Deadline on February 27, 2025, Jamie Campbell Bower—known for his roles in Twilight and Stranger Things—will be a regular cast member in Season 3 of The Rings of Power. The publication described his role as:
Rumors suggest a new, noble knight, known only as Arlen, may appear in the show. He’s being talked about as a potential love interest for Galadriel (Morfydd Clark), especially after she discovered her previous love interest, Halbrand (Charlie Vickers), was actually the villain Sauron.
Jamie Bower recently shared with fans that he’s not eager to take on another villain role right after playing Henry Creel/Vecna in Stranger Things. He’s open to either playing a new romantic interest or the character Celeborn, but wants to avoid playing a bad guy for now.
I told my therapist, ‘Honestly, I don’t think I can play another villain for a while. It really messes me up, and I mean that seriously.’
It’s likely that Bower will portray a heroic character who helps Galadriel, rather than a villain working for Sauron to defeat her and the elves. Some fans, though, believe Bower might actually play another strong elf, such as Glorfindel.
Rumors on Reddit suggested actor Robert Aramayo might play Celeborn in Season 3 of The Rings of Power, which led to discussions about other roles he could take on. While some fans hoped he’d play Annatar, most agreed that Celeborn would be the best fit, as one Reddit user pointed out.
It’s an unexpected choice to cast him as Celeborn, considering he typically plays darker or more villainous roles. However, that could actually work well for the character. I’ve always imagined Celeborn as a bit of a rugged Silvan elf, not the very proper and reserved version seen in Peter Jackson’s films.
Many viewers loved Jamie Bower’s portrayal of Vecna and think he’d be perfect as The Witch King in The Rings of Power. However, the show focuses on Galadriel’s journey of strength and self-discovery. Considering this, it would create the most compelling story arc if Galadriel were to reconnect with Celeborn after being deceived by Sauron into thinking she’d found a new romance.
Since there are suggestions Celeborn will still be alive and the creators have promised to give him a bigger part in the next season, casting Leo Bowers as Celeborn and putting him alongside Romany Clark makes perfect sense. And speaking of the future…
When Will ‘The Rings of Power’ Season 3 Be Released?

Prime Video
Even though we don’t yet know which character Robert Aramayo will portray in The Rings of Power Season 3, Forbes reports that fans may have to wait a while to see it. Filming recently finished after a significant delay in getting the season renewed, and it could be over a year before the new episodes are released.
Season 2 of The Rings of Power finished filming in June 2022 and launched in August 2024 – a gap of 14 months. Because of the extensive visual effects and post-production work, it’s likely Season 3 will follow a similar timeline. If so, fans can expect the new season to arrive on Prime Video around February 2027. This would mean a wait of over two and a half years between the premieres of Seasons 2 and 3.
Bowers will finish out the final four episodes of Stranger Things, which are scheduled to be released on December 31, 2025. He’s also starring in a new horror film called The Haunting in Wicker Park, a PG-13 movie based on the story of the first live televised exorcism that took place in 1971.
