CD Projekt RED Has Absorbed Multiplayer The Witcher Studio The Molasses Flood
The team behind games like “The Flame in the Flood” and “Drake Hollow”, which is known as Developer The Molasses Flood, was bought by CD Projekt RED in 2021. Now, this entire team has been fully integrated into CD Projekt RED, a renowned studio based in Poland that’s famous for creating games like “Cyberpunk 2077” and “The Witcher”.
Under the secret project name ‘Project Sirius’, The Molasses Flood was previously developing a multiplayer version of ‘The Witcher’ game. However, they have decided to work on it under a new name, a decision that was made last week but just announced more recently.
On April 1, 2025, The Molasses Flood LLC (TMF) will officially join forces with CD PROJEKT RED Inc. (CDPR Inc.), a subsidiary of the broader CD PROJEKT Group. This merger is confirmed in an announcement on the studio’s official website.
Due to the merger between TMF, it has ended its individual operations. Instead, CDPR Inc. now holds the rights and duties that were previously with TMF. This change won’t impact the accessibility or distribution of “The Flame in The Flood” and “Drake Hollow” games, as they will still be published by the CD PROJEKT Group.
In related updates, Damian Isla, a co-founder at The Molasses Flood, has left the company. He announced this change on LinkedIn, describing the studio’s merger with CD Projekt RED as “the close of an era.” He further clarified that: “this transition is beneficial and healthy for the studio, and it was a long-anticipated move.
He clarifies that this initiative removes some organizational boundaries and brings the TMF team closer to the broader CDPR organization. In essence, it points towards a promising future for Project Sirius (also known as “the multiplayer Witcher game,” where I served as Design Director for three years). It promises to be a remarkable game, one that will leave a lasting impression, and I eagerly look forward to sharing the fruits of our labor with the world.
Project Sirius remains unveiled in a formal public setting so far, however, it’s clear that it won’t be connected to The Witcher 4, as the latter began its full-scale production in November.
