Despite negative feedback from critics and fans of Yellowstone, the show continues to be very popular on Paramount+. This new series is a sequel that follows Luke Grimes as Kayce Dutton, picking up the story after the events of Taylor Sheridan’s highly praised Yellowstone.
According to FlixPatrol, the show Marshals is currently the second most popular show on Paramount+ globally, just behind South Park. These two shows have been competing for the top spot, and South Park recently regained the No. 1 position after Marshals led the charts throughout the last month.
The show Marshals is currently fourth in the rankings, a drop of three places from yesterday. Because new episodes are released on Sundays, it’s normal to see a temporary increase in its popularity on Mondays and Tuesdays as people watch the latest installment of the series.
Marshals Expands the Yellowstone Universe
Spencer Hudnut created and runs the new show, Marshals, which follows Kayce as he becomes part of a special U.S. Marshals team. Logan Marshall-Green, Arielle Kebbel, Ash Santos, and Tatanka Means star alongside him as fellow Marshals Pete, Belle, Andrea, and Miles. Gil Birmingham, Brecken Merrill, and Moses Brings Plenty return from Yellowstone to play Thomas Rainwater, Tate Dutton, and Mo.
Although Marshals airs on CBS, it hasn’t been a complete success. Both critics and fans of Yellowstone are divided on how the show has developed Kayce Dutton’s storyline, especially after the premiere episode which featured a surprising twist that sparked debate among viewers. Some critics also feel Marshals relies too heavily on the events of the Yellowstone finale.
It’s not surprising that Landman, the latest Yellowstone spin-off, is finding its footing. Unlike previous series like 1883 and 1923, it’s the first to premiere episodes on a major network instead of a streaming service or cable. It’s also different in style – feeling more like a standard procedural drama such as NCIS than the intense, epic western of Yellowstone. It will likely take viewers some time to adjust to these changes.
As a big fan of NCIS, I was thrilled to hear CBS renewed NCIS: Sydney so quickly! Seriously, just twelve days after it first aired, they ordered a second season. That’s a really fast turnaround, and it shows they clearly believe in the show, which is great news for us viewers.
The new series Marshals has quickly become a hit, attracting a large audience across all platforms. CBS Entertainment president Amy Reisenbach believes this strong response demonstrates the enduring appeal of the Yellowstone universe, the compelling characters, and the talented cast, particularly Luke Grimes.
More Yellowstone Is on the Way This Year
The initial season of Marshals will have 13 episodes, concluding on CBS on May 24th. Fans of Yellowstone are in for a treat, as The Dutton Ranch will debut on Paramount+ on May 15th. That first season will consist of nine episodes and run until July 3rd.
The new series, The Dutton Ranch, centers on Beth Dutton and her husband, Rip Wheeler (played by Kelly Reilly and Cole Hauser). The show follows them as they risk everything to start a new life in South Texas, but their fresh start is threatened by forces determined to defend their powerful legacy.
A new episode of Marshals airs every Sunday on CBS until May 24.
