‘CBS Saturday Morning’ co-hosts Michelle Miller and Dana Jacobson out in Paramount layoffs

Michelle Miller and Dana Jacobson, co-hosts of “CBS Saturday Morning,” are among approximately 100 employees laid off from the CBS News division due to cuts at its parent company, Paramount.

Sources say the Saturday program is being revamped to resemble the weekday show “CBS Mornings.” As part of these changes, Brian Applegate, the show’s executive producer, is leaving his position.

John Dickerson, a CBS News contributor since 2009, is the first person to leave the network since Bari Weiss became editor in chief.

CBS has canceled two of its news programs: “CBS Mornings Plus,” which aired in cities like Los Angeles, and the streaming show “CBS Evening News Plus,” hosted by John Dickerson. Dickerson announced on Monday that he will be leaving CBS as a result.

CBS News has recently let go of several journalists, including Debora Patta, who reported on the Gaza war, as well as Janet Shamlian and Nikki Battiste. A CBS News spokesperson did not offer a statement on the matter.

These layoffs are part of a larger restructuring at Paramount, where the company is cutting around 1,000 jobs company-wide. Skydance Media, the new owner, aims to save $2 billion overall, and another round of cuts is anticipated later in the year.

As a longtime viewer of CBS News, I always appreciated Lesley Miller’s work. She wasn’t just a face on Saturday mornings; she was a really versatile journalist. She filed reports for shows like “CBS Sunday Morning” and “48 Hours” pretty regularly, and I often saw her stepping in for Gayle King on the weekday morning news, too. She was a true team player and a consistently reliable presence.

A former New York Times editor, who also founded the Free Press media company, is entering the challenging world of television news.

Born and raised in Los Angeles, 52-year-old Miller is the daughter of Dr. Ross Miller, a trauma surgeon who also served on the Compton city council. She began her career at the Los Angeles Times in the early 1990s.

During her time at CBS News, Miller reported on many different topics, with a particular focus on racism and social inequality. She is married to Marc Morial, the former mayor of New Orleans and current president of the National Urban League.

This reorganization follows Skydance Media’s purchase of Paramount, which was finalized two and a half months ago.

Janet Jacobson, 52, has worked at CBS News since 2015. Before that, she was at ESPN for ten years, appearing on shows like “First Take” and “SportsCenter.”

Jeff Glor, Michelle Miller, and Dana Jacobson have been the hosts of “CBS Saturday Morning” since 2018, when the show was originally known as “CBS This Morning Saturday.”
