CBS News says Trump is dropping out of ’60 Minutes’ interview after accepting invitation
NEW YORK —
As a lifelong follower of political events and a keen observer of media dynamics, I can’t help but feel a sense of déjà vu reading about Trump’s latest interview cancellation with 60 Minutes. It seems like we’ve been down this road before – or at least, it feels that way given the number of times he’s backed out of interviews in the past.
Previously elected President Trump has decided against proceeding with an arranged interview on the CBS News show “60 Minutes.
CBS had initially scheduled an hour-long special for Monday, featuring interviews with both Donald Trump and Vice President Kamala Harris. However, CBS News revealed on Tuesday that Trump has decided not to take part in the program anymore.
Following the invitation from ’60 Minutes’ for an interview with Scott Pelley, a representative from the campaign communicated today that the ex-President, Donald Trump, declined the opportunity to be interviewed by the network.
According to CBS News, the invitation for Trump to appear on their network remains open. This week, Vice President Harris will have a conversation with “60 Minutes” journalist Bill Whitaker.
Trump’s campaign representative, Steven Cheung, stated that “60 Minutes requested an interview, even after they had been exposed for lying about Hunter Biden’s laptop in 2020. There were initial talks, but no formal arrangements or confirmations were made. Moreover, they demanded to conduct live fact-checking during the interview, which is unheard of.
If Donald Trump sticks with his choice, Pelley will share about the candidate’s decision to stay away from the broadcast.
60 Minutes” is typically the most-viewed news broadcast on TV, and it frequently ranks as the week’s top non-NFL football evening show.
For several weeks preceding the November election, the program is well-known for hosting extensive interviews with the leading presidential contenders from the major parties. In his 2020 campaign, Trump made appearances on “60 Minutes” alongside Lesley Stahl, their correspondent.
In the 2024 presidential race, both contenders have restricted their media appearances mainly to major outlets. Trump has been frequently seen on Fox News, often interacting with commentators who are pro-Trump. On the other hand, Harris last spoke with MSNBC’s Stephanie Ruhle, a supporter of her candidacy. Her other national interviews were held with Dana Bash on CNN.
