CBS News President Ingrid Ciprian-Matthews exits role

As a seasoned movie critic with over three decades of experience in the industry, I can’t help but feel a pang of sadness as I read about Ingrid Ciprian-Matthews‘ departure from CBS News. Her dedication and commitment to journalism, especially in the realm of broadcast news, is truly inspiring.

I. Ciprian-Matthews, president of CBS News, is resigning before the upcoming budget reductions at the news division under its latest management.

Paramount Global had previously planned cost reductions prior to their $8-billion merger with Skydance Media, which was announced last week. However, following the merger, Skydance’s executives have mentioned their intention to find approximately $2 billion in savings, leading to speculation of more significant cost cuts.

As a passionate film enthusiast, I’ve had the privilege of working with Ciprian-Matthews for three decades now at CBS News. Recently, she took on an even more significant role as our president, effective August. In an email to her dedicated team, sent out Wednesday, she subtly alluded to the exciting transformations that are soon to unfold within our newsroom.

“We’re facing changes in our industry and company that require some crucial choices, both immediate and long-term. I want to be honest with you all about who will lead us through these decisions. Throughout my career, I’ve prioritized integrity and my values, and now is the time to be open about my intentions.”

Ciprian-Matthews will continue her role as a senior editorial consultant for CBS News during their election coverage. Following the elections, she is set to depart from the company.

As I sat in the darkened theater, munching on my popcorn, I couldn’t help but notice the absence of information about who would be taking over from Ciprian-Matthews at CBS News and Stations and CBS Media Ventures. He was a key player under the leadership of Wendy McMahon, the CEO, but unfortunately, no successor has been announced yet.

Two notable heads of broadcast news have left their positions this year. Following Kim Godwin’s resignation from ABC News amidst turbulence during her three-year term, Ciprian-Matthews also recently announced his departure from an unspecified news organization. At present, no successor has been named for either position.

I am thrilled to share that this week, a remarkable individual named Ciprian-Matthews is being inducted into the National Assn. of Hispanic Journalists Hall of Fame. With a rich background and significant contributions to journalism, it’s an honor to witness such an achievement. Their life story and commitment to reporting resonates deeply with me as someone who values diverse voices in media. The journey of Ciprian-Matthews is truly inspiring, and I can’t wait to learn more about their impact on the industry.
