Catherine Zeta-Jones, 55, admits nobody thought her marriage to Michael Douglas, 80, ‘would ever last’ as the couple prepare to celebrate their 25th anniversary

Catherine Zeta-Jones jokingly commented that many people didn’t expect her marriage to Michael Douglas to endure, as they approached their 25th wedding anniversary.

In an unexpected match considering their significant age difference of 25 years, the renowned Welsh actress and iconic Hollywood figure exchanged vows at a grand wedding held at a luxurious New York hotel back in 2000.

Despite initial doubts, the happily married pair, who are proud parents to Dylan, aged 25, and Carys, aged 22, have successfully demonstrated their love and happiness. Catherine describes their marriage as brimming with ‘love and excitement’ as she eagerly anticipates celebrating this significant occasion.

She shared with The Sun: “We’ve been married for 25 years, which is certainly worth celebrating. Many had predicted that it wouldn’t endure!

This adventure is all about discovering, cherishing, and enjoying, and the idea of hitting a 25-year milestone is truly exhilarating! It reminds me of when my parents celebrated their own special occasion.

Even though Catherine was excited, she mentioned that she wouldn’t be able to celebrate on that day because she had obligations tied to filming Netflix’s series “Wednesday,” where she portrays Morticia Adams.

She shared with the press: “I’ve been very busy this year, but my partner has been incredibly supportive. We’re planning a celebration during the holiday season since I’ll be filming season three. The free time I’ll get is quite limited.

Earlier, Catherine pondered over the highs and lows encountered in her marriage. This was prompted by a temporary separation that occurred in 2013, following his struggle with tongue cancer and her revelation of bipolar disorder. However, they managed to reconcile in the year 2014.

In a 2023 interview with The Telegraph, she expressed that it’s natural to encounter both good times and challenging periods when you share a life and wake up next to the same person daily.

For approximately 25 years now, I’ve been starting my day with Mike. I adore our marriage, but it’s quite astonishing when you truly ponder upon it. “Would you like to marry me?” “Of course!” was the response.

However, after giving it some thought, it seems that the Chanel bag, which was quite an investment, has lost its appeal to me. I plan to sell it instead.

In simpler terms, she mentioned that although their relationship has had its ups and downs, she and Michael get along exceptionally well. They both hold a deep respect for each other, and the age difference of 25 years doesn’t seem significant to her.

‘I remember people saying, “When you’re 50, he’s going to be 75.” Well, that’s just maths.’

In the previous month, Catherine shared about their unexpectedly relaxed home vacations with her spouse Michael and their two children.

The pair have brought up their kids in the bustling environment of Hollywood’s glamour world, yet they relish peaceful, unassuming family times away from public attention.

It’s been disclosed that Catherine and her partner, Michael, opted for family vacations within the UK at Butlin’s and Legoland, even though they jointly possess a net worth of approximately £250 million ($360 million).

In simpler terms, she shared with Radio Times that her children have visited various places, including Butlin’s, Legoland, explored London, traveled to Scotland, ventured to Ireland, and even the Isle of Man (to the best of her knowledge).

Catherine mentioned that she makes sure her kids visit her hometown, Wales, for a fortnight annually to be with their grandparents – David James Jones and Patricia Fair.

Moreover, Dylan and Carys have taken delight in various dream vacations around the globe, visiting places such as India, Patagonia, Africa, Cambodia, and several other captivating destinations.

Catherine often expressed her dream of becoming a mother, and she fondly referred to it as one of her most significant accomplishments.

She expressed great joy about having kids, calling it an incredible delight in her life. Later, she contemplated on how becoming a mother shifted her viewpoint towards the world.

‘All of a sudden, I saw doom and gloom everywhere,’ she quipped.

While my husband was playfully tossing objects into the air, I found myself worrying, ‘There are ceiling fans here! They could get injured!’

It seems like I’ve been noticing the most pessimistic possibilities everywhere lately. However, I believe it might be due to growing older and becoming more prone to wondering ‘What if…?’

Catherine pointed out that taking care of her own kids made her realize just how much effort her parents invested in rearing her, along with her siblings David and Lyndon, in Swansea.

She raised three children on her own, without any assistance. One brother was into judo, another took up swimming, while I pursued dance, as she clarified.

I was involved with the local amateur drama group, known as the Dylan Thomas Theatre. At some point, I believe there might have been gymnastics activities mixed in as well.

As a parent, you might find yourself thinking, “Oh my goodness,” upon realizing the magnitude of all that lies ahead. On the other hand, as a child, you may have been frustrated or upset when your parent was five minutes late in picking you up one time.
